Okay, so I have some new toys to mounts on the disco but I need to know a couple of things first. The gauges that I have are boost, water temp, oil temp and oil pressure. I was first of all wondering the internal dimensions of the top radiator hose on a 300tdi.. the options that I have seen are 32, 36 and 38mm. So which sensor size mount do I need? Secondly, I am looking at ways of mounting the oil temp and pressure. It appears that you should be able to purchase a sandwich plate that has these capabilities, but where do you get one of these suckers from? Also, I was thinking of just running a power line (off the ignition relay) into under the dash and then running each gauge off its own fuse under the dash, with another fuse box for the dimmer. Is this the best way to go?

ps- I would love to be able to pick up the sandwich plate and not have to purchase over flea bay Cheers
For those of you that are not sure what I am talking about here is a link with a pic

I'd be making sure the sandwich plate doesn't extend the filter too much.
I seem to remember problems with longer (incorrect) oil filters hitting (and being holed) the diff under extreme axle articulation.

Would it just be easier then to use brass fittings and come off the factory low pressure sensor on the 300tdi?

Oil pressure - brass T off OEM oil sender, as in photo.
water temp - cut tap into thermo housing
oil temp - cut tap into top of oil filter housing
Using a sandwich could extend the filter down to far, to close to front diff. A Z9 filter will fit a 300TDi but is to long.
I got a remote oil head of a internet shop in the USA (google)

Is there any way of getting around drilling and tapping the filter housing and thermostat housing? Would prefer not doing this... Would it be possible to put a T in the cooler outlet line?

Yes mate, I did not installed a VDO water temp because I have an Engine Saver monitor which it is much better.

I have similar fittings ready to go but was concerned about the mass of the VDO sender rocking up and down at the end of a brass arm and the stress/fatigue that would put on the joint. Does anyone think this is an issue or am i being paranoid ?

I think that you are a bit paranoid :)
The fitting it is 20k km old with some hard going and is all Ok
I like more the VDO sensor in the middle of the fitting and not at the end.

Well little bit of an update, the boost gauge is in and working. Lights up and works with the dimmers. Nice bit of kit actually. Just got to get some brass fittings to put the pressure gauge on and then the water temp fitting... More worried about getting these two gauges in and working more so then the oil temp

I have just finished installing the oil pressure gauge in my Defender.
The parts can be bought from a VDO stockist. I got mine from Ringwood Speedo's on Maroondah Hwy Ringwood.
Here are the images and part numbers for those interested.

Redline Performance Oil Pressure sender adaptor M10x1 - RGA-33
Found pressure to be about 350-380kPa when cold and 300Kpa once warmed up and under load. When idling it is about 200-250Kpa when cold and 125-150kpa when warm.
I ran the sender wire along the same path as the existing oil pressure light sender wire.
Took about an hour to install.

So klappers, what sort of boost does it get up to and does it ever pull a vacuum?
