Problems:-
1. Bell housing is different between the 2.25 and the IOE engines. Need a bell housing off a Series 2 gearbox. Series 3 bellhousing is not practical as it has a different clutch arrangement not suitable for direct operation. Need to use S2a clutch, not S3.
2. Engine mounts are different location.
3. Different exhaust.
4. Air cleaner to carbie off S3.
5. Throttle linkage will need some modification.
6. Fuel system a bit different - no electric pump (although you could use it!)
7 Space lengthways will be tight, but lots of people have done it, so it must fit. (but Rover added 2" to fit it)
8. Radiator - easiest is to use Series 3 radiator, but for looks (square tank) a S2/2a one would be better. Otherwise, custom hoses.
9. Changed wiring for alternator - not ideal running this through the ammeter but you can get away with it. Change of polarity will require swapping ammeter terminals.
I may have missed something.

The other problem is the L/H engine mounting R/H side will, with 80" engine mounts L/H side will need a spacer and longer bolts to fit.

just so you guys no this is just tempory i just need it in there to finish my project so i am not going to need heaps of stuff there like it doesnt have to be perfect i would like to be able to run the engine and maybe drive about 10 meters so now that you guys know this now what do i have to do oh did i mention its due in 3 days yeah that bit hurts

That's fine. Apart from welding a later series engine mount to the chassis.
Or making a spacer to fit the 80" mount it wont sit near enough. AS John sez
a 6 cyl bellhousing will have to be swapped to fit it in also..........

i have a s3 gbox in bits can this be useful at all?
i will only run it for maybe an hour
there wont be any panels on the front
the firewall will be on
the exhaust doesnt matter i can cut it if i have to
fuel isnt a big problem atm because i can just put some in the carby if i have to
air cleaner wont be an issue as i said this is only for a short time
i dont know if there will really be any wiring

You will still have problems as the S/2 - 3 bell housings are hydraulic
clutch set ups and you need to swapp to the S1 manual clutch set up.
do able but requires the thinking cap.......

just so yous know i dont know much about this.but if i swap the clutch throw out on a s1 gbox with a s3 ct would that work i reely need this to work and unfortuantely my s1 engine has been away for 10 weeks and is not ready.

Not with the clutch arrangement. BUT with a series 2 bellhousing and the thinking cap it's do able........

ok so who has a s2 bellhousing they would like to sell lease or lend me this w/e fingers crossed

You need a Series 2/2a bell housing - or a Series 1 diesel bell housing. The 2/2a clutch setup is hydraulic, but the slave cylinder turns a shaft that is the same as the Series 1 direct operation, where the Series 3 has a different setup altogether. Because of different location of the thrust bearing you need a Series 2a pressure plate.
I do have a suitable bell housing, but unfortunately it is nowhere near you. (and is still attached to a gearbox!)

dad is saying it is to much effort to get just wondering how hard will it be to get if there is no seat base or floors there so it has the gbox connected to the engine still and the firewall is there.how long roughly would this take

Tony,
I cant understand where you are really coming from?
You have spent many months repairing and restoring your Series one, rebuilt the gearbox and did an amazing job on the diffs in addition to painting the chassis, (new cross members etc) and it looks a wonderful job..
And NOW all this make do rush, for the school project?
Surly you would have adequately demonstrated you ability to persevere at a project and succeed in arriving at a goal?
I think that if you presented the rolling chassis and bulkhead and even pictures of the engine it would suffice for top marks.
You could then finish at your own pace and complete the restoration to you standards of perfection and not a last minute cock-up?
Just my thoughts mate!

well i did the steering he wasnt happy with it and has undone it it was fine specially for my school project
he pulled apart my s1 gbox and replaced some of it with s2 gbox even tho i sed not to he did this so the gbox could go on the s3 engine but then the mounts were wrong so we couldnt mount the engine so we did all this for nothing and now we will have to go back later and fix the gbox and make it all s1
i cleaned the chassis aand lowered the gbox down where it had to go he wasnt happy so he lifted it and got oil all over my chassis
so pretty much we have gone bavkwards when were suppose to go forwards oh and he scratched paint off my firewall

Tony,
I sympathise with you as do others.
Why did you Pop do all these modifications?
what is his reasoning?
Did you ask him why he wanted to do all these things?
Paint can be touched up and no one will know the difference, dont worry.
So what are you going to do now, and is the old gearbox going to be fitted regardless?
if cussing starts, go inside and close the shed up, dinners waiting and the fire is warm :BigThumb:
