Mr Nilssen's friend Ludvig Fjeld scrambled outside the tent and managed to find another rifle the pair had buried in some sand nearby.
"I was about 20 or 25m from the bear and it had Sebastian in its mouth, I was very worried I did not want to hit Sebastian as well," Mr Fjeld said.
"That would have been a really bad day for him."

I love understatements :D

I feel sorry for isbjornet. Shot in his home land whilst doing what isbjorne do. Hunting animals lower in the food chain. Norskere should be aware of the dangers of travelling and camping in bear territory. Ice bears are a bloody big carnivore with no natural enemies.

Is it just me? I don't understand why you would bury a rifle in the sand?
Hmmm Better bury my rifle just in case

Maybe its the norm in Sandy polar bear territory but I don't know of anyone around here that buries their rifles.

What, compared to being eaten alive by a big arse bear.
