Has any one had transmission problems with auto D3s yet been on triumph/rover site under service section and there is a big warning about trans failure from not changing oil when land rover says trans is sealed for life talked to ian at triumph/rover spares he was saying approx $290.00 for
service kit & $700.00 approx for genuine zf oil has any body heard about this ? im going to talk to my land rover dealer to see if they will fit such service kits because new service kit comes with different trans pan and you have to smash the old one off the gear box to get it off:( or there is over six hours off labor to get the pan off  any info would be great

$700 is too expensive for the oil, I did some research about 18 months ago and was able to find the oil which is used for Landrover, BMW, and VW for their ZF gearboxes. Cost ex Victoria for a 20 litre drum was around $300. If you do a search on this forum you should be able to find the details if not I should be able to find it again for you.
The removal of the transmission pan was indeed a pain but I guess once done the next time would be easier. It is difficult to get past the cross member but can be done by jacking up the RH side of the motor after removing the engine mount bolts............B........awful to put the bolts back though. I did it but not a job I would want to do for at least another 170K's

there are a number of threads in this part of the forum about the transmission, transmission shudder and an atf group buy which caverd3 was trying to get off the ground.

Have a search and you will find lots of answers on the problem, the fix and the cost.

I am getting the transmission fixed under Allianz warranty instead.
Go directly to ZF Australia ( ZF Australia Pacific Pty Ltd - Driveline & Chassis Technology - Sales & Services (http://www.zf.com.au) ) and get the oil also you can get the steel pan kit direct from them too, just ask for the Falcon steel pan kit. :D

mrd3,
Find A&B transmissions in Melbourne I think, they sell the pan and the gasket plus the new bolts, in other words the whole kit. Don't worry about jacking the engine up a couple of sharp movements of the pan when the bolts are undone to the rear of the vehicle breaks the oil feed into the gearbox off. The job is easy from there. I bought an allen key style torx set from Coventrys this makes the removal and installation of the bolts easier. AutoMac transmissions for the oil, they are in O'Conner easy to find they are the ZF agents for the state of WA, I had to buy twenty litres, not cheap but the price was better than you've been quoted.
Once I had the tranny guard off the job took about three hours max. Make sure you have the oil temp right when checking the oil level, important you do this as per the manual. 40 degrees C is optimum. OK hope this helps. If you want any other info let me know somehow, I'm in Perth.

i would recommend auto trans r us and ask for cameron they done filter and flushes for less than the price of the oil from l/rover they are based in osborne park. the oil from l/r is over $800.00 i did get 20lts from zf australia but that was a long time ago and cost trade at $250, these trans could benifit with a service as the time schdule by l/r is excessive, i had vogue zf trans give up early as 80,000km the norm been experancing is around 150,000km
