Hi
What is the best way to store loose axles in the shed. I want to stop them getting rusty.

Parts which can rust are coated in a light wax usually.

You could spray them with lanotec, or wrap them in an oily rag.

Have a look in the loopier gun publications. They used to advertise devices for storing your "tractor axles" supposedely in case of an Asian invasion to stop the yellow hordes using your "tractors". They also used to advertise "bible boxes" to bury your "bibles" in case a Godless socialist government tried to confiscate "bibles".

Just rub a smear of grease over the splines and spray the rest with Lanotec, wrap them in some oil dampened rags and store off the concrete, Regards Frank.

This is basically how I store mine (only 2) and I just hang them (tie wire) under the mez floor. As Tank said, definitely off the concrete.

Hi LRO, I've used a product from CRC called "Soft Seal" to protect parts of machinery for inter/national transportation, it leave's a nice thick film that is quite durable when it drys.

My small 10 spline collection is still where I immediately put each piece after pulling them out of a diff housing, leaning against shed wall with one end on concrete. :)

No rust yet, but with 10 splines that is the least of anyone's probs. :D

cheers, DL

Love it....and SE QLD...particularly just a little north of brisbane is rumoured to have lots and lots and lots of buried "axles".

And quite a few other parts of Oz where misfits, survivalists, and self-sufficienters go to find cheap real estate & near non-existent employment opportunities to "retire" on unemployment payments. Cheap acreage subdivisions on rubbish land hived off by farmers are usually infested with them.
