Okidoke,
Looking to replace my Garmin Etrex as I can't read it anymore without my glasses:(.
I want something around 5" that'll do street nav and display 4WD maps, preferably Hema raster maps.
The above rules out Garmin.
Doing some research I see the Navman MY60T, 65T and 75T are Win CE 6.0. (Navman Gets Updates On The Go | CyberShack (http://www.cybershack.com/news/navman-gets-updates-go))
.............and that are soon to offer Hema maps.Lonely Planet Travel Guide - Australia (http://www.navmanstores.com.au/4WD%20Downloads/2010%20MY%204WD%20Tracks___733.htm)
I also see that Navman GPS' can be unlocked to allows access to Win CE.

Just wondering what the AULRO GPS gurus think of this?????
I've tried to follow the threads on the el cheapo Chinese GPS units but to be honest, it sounds like a lot of work!
Cheers.

the Chinese ones are quite easy really. You simply point the GPS button on the main menu to run new menu software (which I can supply) and then road and off-road options appear. More than happy to do it for you even, given you're a silver subscriber :)

WhiteD3 - I'm also interested in getting one of the Chinese units - but prefer to get the biggest screen that will fit in the cubby of a D3 (where factory sat-nav sits). Maybe my eyes are worse than yours! lol
I just measured the cubby and it is 180mm wide - the 7" China units appear to be at least 185mm wide - not counting cables which stick in the side.
There is a 6.2" model from DX (DealExtreme: $105.50 6.2" LCD Windows CE 5.0 GPS Navigator w/FM Transmitter + Built-in 2GB Memory (USA/Canada Maps) (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.42543)) looks like a goer. It's also in stock.
I'd be interested to hear what you decide to go with. :BigThumb:
Cheers,
Rob

Seriously - for the money - the china ones aer the go, many of us can help here and hellz, pm me & I'll supply maps to ya ;) (topo's)
Lets see... 500 plus for a unit, hundreds more for maps... vs 120 bucks for the unit?
Jonesy, I just ordered 2 6" from there & they should rock up in the next hour here (Been tracking them) I'll let ya know how it goes.

I emailed Navman via their website re the 3rd party maps, and of course got no reply:mad:
Anticipating this, I went to ebay and just this minute taken delivery of a 6" Knav, $180 on Ebay.
600mhz, 128mb ram, CE6.0, wifi, bluetooth, blah, blah. The only test I've done is to make sure it turns on, which it does, so there's a win!
Prelim discussion had with Ranga re what to do now but the aim is to get Oziexplorer and Hema 4WD maps onto it.
Cheers.

Good stuff mate :) enjoy the new toy - oh & there is a menu called Mio pocket that I am getting to run very well. Once it is perfect I am going to provide an easy way to install it for those wanting to give it ago ;)
Check it out here ;)

Well the Knav appears to be as advertised. Feels a bit cheap and flimsy, and I've seen blades of grass more rigid than the stylus......but "price begets quality" as they say.
Powered it up, found the satellites, found home and work no probs, so for now, all is good.

Thanks for the offer RaZz0R. I think I already have the topo maps at hand.
Which 6" ones did you order?
Cheers,
Rob

They appear to be the "YF GPS" brand - good stuff!
If I've comprehended it right, the only downside to those would be WinCE 6 - which means TomTom can't be used... is that right?
Cheers,
Rob

If the box shown in the link is anything to go by, it's the same manufacturer as the Knav I've just bought.

Hi I have an Evergrow c947 5" 128mb ram with WinCE 6, I have after a long search finally been able to get Tom Tom to work on mine with the 2010 map It can work but you have to use modified versions. but you run the TT7Navigator.msr file rather than the exe file.
just google wince 6 tomtom
try http://www.mobilepassion.org/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=44&sid=fe9f1d50a172bf0fbd672b11827f6a27
hope this helps

Just an update re the Knav below:
To sum up, it's crap...even for the price. I'm on my 3rd unit (2nd replacement) after the first died and the 2nd unit's USB interface failed. The third is not much better but so far (2 days) it still works.
Has no probs at all running Ozice and the display is nice and clear, although far from bright enough on a sunny day. Battery run time (1700ma) is ~ 30 minutes.
I'm far from impressed with Ozice compared to how my Garmin Venture works, but I'll persevere and maybe get used to it.

Hey guys ...
Resurrecting an old thread rather than start another - but five years on, what's the best advice to adding an aftermarket GPS into a D3 cubby space in-dash?
I have found a series of Navmans that support 4WD mapping, but I'm keen to extract some real-world experience, rather than wander around and make more mistakes :-).
Thanks in advance.

A navman with win ce can be hacked snd then run various programs, an android tablet may offer better flexibility.
