Hi Guys
Is there a safe way of compressing hi pressure Gas springs(struts) for fitting/removal.
I have some to test fit on my camper trailer.4 are 2000N 4 are 500N.
Need to compress around 100mm to fit them.

Hi Andy
i would suggest if you need to compress them 100mm that they are too long, and may over extend the part on your camper.

200kg of force and 50kg of force. Just make sure whatever you use can handle that.

All the gas struts I have ever fitted/removed could be fitted in the open position - how come you can't do that?

The Radius arc of the gas struts is different to the radius arc of the boat rack they are assisting(differing mount points).I still may have it wrong, hence I only tacked the mounts in,well heavy tacks due to the strength of the struts.

Had a bit of a play after work.
Should be able to use a rachet strap and a custom made fork to do the job.
