Hope the damage isnt too bad Tony.
Where we have been working a farmer is still feeding out hay to his moo cows.
Its reasonably hilly, but not like your country.
He has 2 big square bales on the tandem trailer and one on the tray of the pootrol traytop.
He puts it in lowrange at the top of the paddock jumps out whilst its driving itself jumps up on the trailer then dishes out the hay to the hungry cows by hand:eek::eek::eek::eek:The moo cows jostle around as they doo. What a recipe for disaster, you wouldnt want the ute to jump out of gear.
Worksafe Sam would LOVE to watch the show:wasntme::wasntme::wasntme::wasntme:

Hope you didn't do too much damage.

OK, in short. I have put two sets of shoes in the handbrake in the past three months. The water and mud here seems to get the better of them.:(

Was fencing in the higher country and using explosives to blow the basalt rocks. Was using the onboard air to clean the core drilled holes before stuffing the boom boom in.
problem was the ign has to be on for the compressor to work.

Now it gets worse.:( Had a bloke helping out and his job was to stay in the 120 and look after it wile I was using the air gun down a 3ft deep hole. Next thing I heard the vehicle moving, looked up and and she was gone! Ripped the air hose out of my hand etc. Their was no one in the vehicle. Turns out he had nature call and wandered off with out stopping and putting in gear:mad: Told him the ****ing hand brake was no good:mad::mad: Thats why he was sitting on his arse in the truck in the first place!

The real extent of the damage is unknown yet.:( Cosmetically virtually none.

So far we have broken engine mounts, Damaged radiator, fan and cowling, ripped the guts out of the left front shock, ripped the left front brake line off, Broke the main battery brackets and damaged the battery(New marine battery), bent the lower channel on the bull bar.
I'm a little concerned about the chassis so will plumb bob and string line it tomorrow.

Got to love the old Landie. Bent a few cores over in the radiator, chained two engine mounts and used wire to tie it back. Fired it up and drove her home with the trailer in tow. Poor old thing even finished its days work.;)

As most of you know I love this vehicle so seem to be a bit upset over this.:( So long as the chassis is OK I'll be happy. The rest is easy.

I really need one of the Disk Handbrake conversions unless things dry out soon.

Nope, it was the short necked goose this time. Thats five runaways here in total now.
If that tree didn't jump out in front it would have ended like the poor old HJ47:eek:
What ever it takes, I will rebuild it. If the chassis is bent, I will put it on a robot at the local smash repairs and try to get it back. If that fails she will become a 130".

You know how some say a vehicle has soul and character. Well, I'm one of them:confused:.
The 120 is still alive so the dream will live on. Most don't understand till they see, hear and drive this one. Is a very good example for a unrestored and hard worked vehicle of its age. If it was a total bitsa like the red rangie I wouldn't care if that makes sense.

Re those disk brake handbrakes.... I have tried one to my RRC, and I can testify that they work!
The last x-brake I got for a Defender (brake and cable) was about A$500 delivered.

It's alive, It's alive!
Got busy last night, changed the engine mounts, rodded an old radiator and swapped it out(I'll get a new core for summer). Picked up a new procomp shock and battery yesterday. Found a spare brake hose in my collection.
The chassis is only 1/8" out. I think that is closer than original specs anyway:cool: Just have to bugger around with the lower channel of the bar and she's all good.
Back into it today.:) Off to the Hunter valley to pick up these strainer post.:D
One more thing, I'll take a block of wood with a rope attached for a park brake.;) May get some strange looks when I park it.:(

Just say in a "mine compliant" vehicle....on all the mine sites I visit, we use big orange wheel chocks everytime we stop the vehicle...I know it a PITA to do each time you get out and back in, but it is piece of mind knowing that your truck is not going to walk away...and you don't have to rely on anyone else.

Cheers

I towed alot of heavy crap with it stock, taking of in low range and taking kilometres...literally...to reach 90 clicks:eek:

Yours will be unreal once done. That fancy torsion stabilizer bar set up (Now out of stock:() and fully automated ride height.
The VNT will gave you the punch mine has and have much longer legs. You may have to get the pump and injectors tweaked though:( I still have to find someone to do mine as not right. They must go well when tuned properly.

.... Are you trying to say your car doesn't go well at the moment?

Yep, It's a under boosted and under fueled gutless pig.;)
A lot of the tricked 4BD1's do a lot better than mine. It's how and where they deliver the power that matters in my case.:) Why I think the VNT would work OK with no intercooler. Have great response and flow well at higher RPM. (Depending in fuel set up)
The above set up wont make big numbers but would be very drivable with flexibility if the governor is opened a little.
