A couple of old Aussie classics .............

Sunday Too Far Away

They're A Wierd Mob

These will get you going for starters, and are a bit more representative than some of the more modern stuff.

Then there's always Crocodile Dundee and the latest ............ Australia.

Hello Vic, Australian feature films starting from the 1900s, it's hard to believe, but up until the 30s the Australian film industry was bigger than Hollywood.

Here is a taste:D

I can`t advise you on Aussie Films too much although Walkabout was well aclaimed in the UK in it`s day -

My own suggestions are to give these ones a go...

Comedy:

Withnail and I - OS 117 Cairo Nest of Spies - Anything Monty Python

Drama:

V for Vendetta and They Live

General Top Drawer Entertainment:

Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch

Of course there are many more but these all jump out as `Must Sees`

Don't know how many of these you may have seen before, but:

Muriel’s Wedding: very funny
Yolngu Boy: Cool
Moulin Rouge!: Brilliant farce
Rabbit-Proof Fence: Heart wrenching
Gallipoli: Brilliant, if biased
Mad Max: (All of them, well maybe no the last one) Great action fun and true to life SA party boys
The Man from Snowy River: Classic
The Year of Living Dangerously: Excellent drama
Crocodile Dundee: Great myth making
Crocodile Dundee II: Still funny
Dead Calm: Just shows how an actor's acting can improve
Romper Stomper: Well I liked it, probably says more about me though
Strictly Ballroom: Oh man this is soooo Australia!
Walkabout: I enjoyed this. Family movie
Alvin Purple: Great fun!
The Cars That Ate Paris: Just shows that hoons do grow up, to produce more hoons.
Picnic at Hanging Rock: Classic
Breaker Morant: Great historical drama even if the facts have been debated with new knowledge
The Sundowners: Another classic
The Shiralee: Yet another classic

Maybe also "The Castle" but its appeal internationally may not be as great as within Oz.

Not quite a movie, its a mini series, but if you are into Australian stuff is a good watch.

The Dirtwater Dynasty. Its about a pommy immigrant who comes to Australia wanting to become a farmer. Anways its based on a true story and follows his life from a small farm in the middle if nowhere and grows from there. Its very good.

This won't be to everybodies tastes but i'm actually looking forward to this release in the week or two..

It's called '4 Lions' a British comedy directed by Christopher Morris that is quite confrontational. As i said, not to everyones tastes but it looks quite funny to me.

Quote taken from a review site of the movie - "Four Lions tells the story of a group of British jihadists who push their abstract dreams of glory to breaking point."

"Babe", a really cute animal story for the whole family. Having kids helps.
"The Dish", has been mentioned before.
"Galipoli", a classic piece of cinema.
"Breaker Morant", again a classic.
If you want a scary/creapy one, "Wolf Creek". Had to stop watching, as we were heading outback for a camping trip.
"Kenny" The life of a plumber.
"Chopper" based on Mark "Chopper" Read's life. (A criminal in Melbourne)
"Sampson and Delilah" Story of 2 Aboriginal youths.
"Spotswood" Anthony Hopkins, and Russel Crow, in a low budget Australian film.

Cheers,

Charlie: When your God tells you to beat the **** out of somebody, you do it. That's what religion is all about!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Labia: Get real, mum, I'm not marrying someone with bigger tits than me. He looks like a condom full of walnuts.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Samson: What would I want with a beautiful young thing when I've got you, eh?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The chickens: "Cluck, cluck, cluck; Ah, *uck this for a joke".

Machismo: [to Ursys] I'll fight you on one condition... that you lower your nipples.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stretch: [as Zeus] Your actual purpose is not as you believe to marry Labia, but to reveal your true homosexuality.
Hercules: [confused] Homosexual?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Samson: [picks up saddle but can't lift it as its too heavy] ****...
[tries again]
Samson: Bloody hell...
[tries again then feels his hair]
Samson: Hang on a sec... my hair feels shorter! Awww, Del!

Barmaid: I know this might be an in opportune moment, but what about the bill?
Ursys: OOOOOOh, bill? [getting angry]
Ursys: You mean you want me to pay for all this?
Barmaid: [Apologetically] Forget i said anything, forget it!
Ursys: I thought you were doing this because you liked me!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Labia: [to Hercules] Well I suppose I better introduce you to me mum.
Murial: [On seeing Labia & Hercules approach] Darling, you haven't been hanging around the gymnasium again have you?
Labia: Mum, who do you think is the dumbest man in the world?
Murial: Why Hercules of course!
Labia: Well say hello!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Charlie: [Hercules starts walking away] Oi, oi! I'm talking to you, you rude bugger!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Murial: [Watches Fanny walk away] Is there something you want to tell me?
Charlie: What? About Fanny? We're just good friends...
Murial: She's wearing your underpants.
Charlie: [Avoids her eyes and starts picking at food] Well, we're obviously very good friends ain't we...
[Trails off]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stretch: [to Labia and Testiculi] I only have sex if someone puts me up to it!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Labia: [Looks at Testiculi after having made love with him] Was it as good for you as it was for me?
Testiculi: [Considers] Well... I didn't expect the earth to move... but I at least expected you to.
Labia: [Gushes] Your so romantic...
[Sucking, kissing noises as they snog]

Just finished watching a new Aussie movie called "Beneath Hill 60". Its the story, set in World War 1 of Aussie diggers mining beneath the German lines and setting off the biggest ever explosion that killed many thousands of German soldiers, it was the biggest ever pre nuclear explosion that was in fact heard in London.
My favourite line in the movie was when they where looking at Hill 60 from a trench through a periscope and one digger says " Is that it" and the other bloke says " waddya expect, the Matterhorn!!!":)

I bought it because it was much, much cheaper (after trade-in, about $1000 cheaper) than a GTR Holden - and it had 4-doors.

Mine is now with a new owner and is still on the road. I had it for 30+ years, then my son owned it.
