For me, it was more a feeling of, "I have to subscribe - I love this place in it's entirety". ;) The longer you are here - the more you gain - then the decision to subscribe or not will take care of itself. :)

Mind you - I hadn't noticed the Subaru add so - who knows? :D

If you send me money I'll send you an email with info on Subarus thus saving you from having to read the annoying ad !

seems Im a subscriber so it must be top notch!

The ads pick up on searches etc youve done previously and list accordingly..

if you clear your biscuits (I hate american terms -Cookies-) then it MAY go away (to be replaced by something else!)

c'mon spoon over you $20 or whatever a year...its worth it!

I don't think it works that way. I had the subaru ad last night, and this morning I got a Labor party ad  I have no intrest in either if these...:wasntme:

I did think it was funny though, after the stink about politics only in the soapbox area :D

That Subaru add is a huge pain in the ass! It wouldn't be so bad if it had a "close" button. I understand the need for advertising $$$ to help keep this forum alive, but this particular add really impacts negatively on my enjoyment of this forum :(

Fire fox and Adblock plus, What is this subby add you are complaining about.
Oh IE. that's the prob, I finally saw that page blocking ad on my IE powered sis in law's lap top. Yes annoying.

Didn't this complaint come up only a couple of months ago with the Vodafone ad??
It's not so much the product that's annoying people, more so the type of banner ad it is.

Yep it's like a porn site:wasntme: virus , it always blocks your page you are trying to read and follows the scrolling. Would be so bad if it tucked itself up the top etc, but to be constantly in the face i can see the annoyance.

i have seen it three times now and have had no trouble with it going away.

i click on the page outside it and then click on the top right side of it and it rolls back up within 10 seconds or so.

some people using linux are having problems with it not rolling back up at all.

if you are using windows or a mac and if it doesn't roll back up then it is an indicator something is amiss on your setup.

i hate the things too, but they are the way the advertising agencies are heading.

i have expressed my displeasure with them to the advertising mobs on numerous occasions.

Just a thaught could you put the ads on the very top of the page then the AULRO banner?

This would stop rolling past it when i try to click on the links like the markets.

Might be a help and still have these ads?

Hey Inc' ... fyi ...

I usually start at the afvb page ( the Subaru add's there waiting for me)

I click new posts

I then right click "open in a new tab" all the threads I want to read.

EVERY tab that opens has the Subaru drop down add on it (sometimes that's like 15-20 tabs) ...

... and you've only seen it 3 times ? ... :p :p :p

I'm not complaining. I understand. But only 3 times ? I reckon I've seen it 150+ times in the last couple of days ... it's following me

Mr Subaru must think I WANT to buy that Forester Mrs Fluids originally wanted before we bought the D2a ... :p

Wave the mouse around over the add, click on the page background a few times, and the add rolls back up out of the way .... not too much of a hassle.

Kev..

I've no problem with the IBM add, as soon as you move your mouse off the add it rolls back up, it also has a close button, unlike the bloody subaru add.

Inc ads are necessary to pay for the site, I hope the Sub ad is paying a big premium for being on this site, after all they are taking up most of the page, so should pay:D

Im seeing the same behaviour described by fluids, on Chrome, IE8 and Firefox, i might have to enable adblocker.... its driving me crazy, every time i go to move the mouse too one of the top menu items listed and the mouse goes near it it drops down blocking what i want to click on..... i want to kill who ever made that add !!!

Ditto.

I was getting on it every page.

Then I made the mistake of logging out.

One can't log back in after that as the bloody white box covers the logon.

All one can do is reload the page until one finally gets one without that bloody advert.

We do need advertising to support the site as Incisor has said many times and the amount subscribers donate to the site does not fill the rather large financial gap that the site costs. However, these pop down ads are self defeating as all they do is annoy the Forum user, I don't even read the bloody things, I try and click on something so they will go away!!!;)

... .. ... ... ..

i think it is like a cat, it goes to people it knows that dont like it....

Did you know that is more than an old wives' tale and there is a scientific explanation for why it happens?

People who like cats tend to stare at them with their eyes wide open. The cats interpret that direct gaze as a threat.

People who don't like them tend to squint at them when they can be bothered to look at them and the cats interpret that as submission, so they feel more at ease with that person because they are not seen as a threat.

Our body language is interpreted by the cat in the opposite way to what we intend.

I'm not sure how that applies to the advertisements though. Maybe they are designed to keep appearing for people who madly click all over the screen to try to get rid of them. :p

I haven't seen it but the Subaru one is a shocker.

Like others on here, I studiously avoid putting my cursor anywhere near those ads as I don't want them dropping down.

It has been bad all the time I've been in hospital using the Siemens HiMed Cockpit terminal provided at the bedside.
