Hi and welcome here.

!st may I suggest you spend some time on this site and do some searches.
There are many threads on here that will help you and than perhaps ask a few more specific questions.

Having said that, I did sell a 93 RRC to a man with a lower back injury.
He mainly bought it because it went like a freight train though I think.

thanks big guy
I have had a few 4bs in my day including a ser 2a with the 186 holden conversion can remember how many axles or adapter plates I went through but it was a few but that was a long time ago, I know nothing about the range rover, it was the rich mans town car in my day not to be taken bush, but the price is right and the missis love the look of interior so thats a bonus. yes I will do some site searching, but what I was manly wondering was where to look for rust as I do know they have a steel chassis and inner body with alloy panels.

Ahh
Look under front floor mats, tailgate, along chassis rails and I have seen a bit of cancer along sunroofs and fire walls but not much in a later RRC.

Best way to test them is to start driving some, same model, same year can feel totally different.
Always get them checked out.
I actually ona couple of occasions called my Landy mechanic if he knows of any good ones for sale.
Sure enough he rang back same day with a 84 RRC, one owner with 79K on the clock. Velour interior and totally standard. Belonged to a local artist-Quite famous- and he wanted $4k for it.
Bought it sight unseen. Absolute beauty.
I sold it on to a ambulance guy from the south east. Loved it.

I used to go through a few cars. I just get bored.

Anyhow, start searching and driving and make sure you get them checked by a fellow who knows what he/she is doing.

IMHO I'd be looking for something between 1985 - 1989 or a little later but that's when they started adding things that break down - ABS and in particular air suspension. That said the 3.9litre V8 is a better match for the vehicle than the underpowered 3.5 litre and the EFI on the 3.9 makes the fuel consumption better.

I have both an '85 and a '91 and while the interior of the '92 is a little better the anti-roll bar seems to make the driving "twitchy" when compared to the non-anti-roll bar '85. I love both and regularly swap which one I drive, this week it's the '91.

LPG is definitely an advantage for long trips.

Addit: Oops forgot to mention the 84 build 85 model has been converted to 4.6EFI and ZF 4 speed auto, so my comparison with another 85-88 model or even the '91 is a little unbalanced. Both the 91 and 85 are ZF 4HP22 auto's with B/W transfer and viscous couplings. They are very quiet and good for all-round use, but for frequent serious off road work the LT230 transfer box is better.

Any thing after the 84ph11 will have improved electrics.
I think 86 was the pick of the early girly. Then late 89 with the 3.9. After that 93 update to 94.
Depends what your using it for really. The latter ones are a lot nicer but will be more troublesome to a point.
86 for strength and reliability (LT230 and bigger CV's).
This topic has been covered heaps in the past. The search function is your friend. http://www.aulro.com/afvb/search.php

There was an excellent looking '91 CSK in the markets section a couple of weeks ago. May be worth a look! CSK RANGEROVER dual fuel - AULRO Classifieds (http://www.aulro.com/apc/showproduct.php/product/3391/cat/4) It's up at Maitland so not all that far from the Central Coast.

yes mate I did see that one but wont have funds for about another 3-4 weeks, Just thought Id better do some research first instead of going like a bull at a gate and buying the first one I came across just because it was the color I liked,
was originally looking at the disco but heard they were lets say not that reliable to put it nice, any thoughts on that.

In my experience the 3.5 had less grunt, but the 3.9 uses heaps more fuel...

In my experience the 3.5 had less grunt, but the 3.9 uses heaps more fuel...I find it the fuel the other way around, my 3.5 was both gutless and used heaps of fuel, maybe it was the lead foot I needed to use to get it to perform. I don't need to step nearly as heavy on the go pedal with the 3.9 (and less with the 4.6).

G'day royboy :)

I know of that CSK in the markets, nice vehicle,it is the Australian version of the special edition "CSK" Charles Spencer King limited edition vehicle to celebrate the designer of the Range Rover, the UK version was a special 2 door vehicle in Black, the Aust one was 4 door Vogue SE (very top of the range) and in white, only 50 built.

I have travelled in this vehicle and it is a nice bit of kit :)

he will trade swap

cheers

Aussie versions came in 2 colours - black also.
One dealer, who shall remain nameless to protect the innocent, 'made' a silver one too.

I'm looking for a Classic Rangie. It needs to be auto as the compromise with Dept of Finance is that 'not a bloody manual'...:censored:

Anyway, there are currently 2 great looking Rangies on carsales dot com. One silver $4000 and another Burgandy (with extras) $6500. I'd take either of them but I'm in QLD and the other side of the continent is a bloody long way. Nice place to visit though WA, don't get me wrong.

Oh well. My Rangie will reveal itself one day (on the East Coast somewhere).

I had a flapper 3.5 which I replaced with a hotwire 3.9. No other changes. Fuel use went up.
