May as well be from the Hunter Valley, south west of you actually. ;) I'll be down your way latter today and also passing through again tomorow! Spent two years down there in the 80's and loved it back then. Some of it looks a bit different now though:eek: Kind of like the day after a massive nuclear blast:(

What really gets to me is... You see a perfectly good brick homes deserted. Long grass etc all around it.
Then the massive gravel pit and craters. Still reminds me of the day after a nuclear blast.:( These futuristic movies we see now with scenes similar to this may be a reality soon.

This thread may have gone the wrong way here:wasntme: But its true.:(

At least it was stopped up at the pretty end :D

I'm still blown away the race horse industry up here has more pull than the coal industry

Not that I'm complaining, the pit was only going to be about 7km away from here.

And good on the horse fellas i say:D call me a hypocrite if u like....but i work in the coal industry, not actually for a mine but still in the same game. I was very happy when i heard the news about them having a win, albeit a temporary one. Just like the farmers up at Caroona who beat the mines, its only temporary until they can try to take the land again. Its BULL****! I really dont see the need for more pits to open up, theres already a ****load around here so why continue to be greedy and wreck the arable land we still have? I know the answer, money, but its just not on. The problems not only here its Australia wide, up Gunnedah way, down near Bundanoon in the southern highlands, up in the Kimberley......
The hunter river is still a nice river up there, come down towards Muswellbrook and anything south and its an ugly mess. I have no actual facts but i blame it on the mines. Im only young but in my lifetime ive seen the river around here change dramatically for the worse. 10-15yrs ago i'd be fishing in the river a few days a week, and catching natives (bass, silver perch and eel tail catties) plus heaps of turtles, mullet and eels etc, now its basically carp and thats it. Not even the carp are in big numbers anymore!
Okay ive had my rant, now ill go.
