Hi Guys, hope someone has a idea on my sick 04 TD4.
It has developed a severe miss fire. through the whole rpm range.
No air hoses have any holes in them. Grayish exhaust smoke when it misses but not all the time. loss of power until the turbo has an effect. but still misses.
I know it iether two things, fuel or air. pulled out the EGU, found to be all carboned up around the valve. cleaned that up and replaced vacuum hose. That did'nt work, no improvement.. Hope someone has had the same prop.
Better post befor I time out again.
Cheers in advance.

I have seen one with similar symptoms and it was water in the fuel. Did it start after refueling? Failing that I would say that you have a faulty injector. They can be a nightmare as the injectors seize into the head and the head will have to be removed.

Hey Bruce,
had a similar problem with my 06 td4 a few months back, running really rough & stalling. Turned out to be a wire with a rusty connector going to a sensor on the fuel system somewhere. Mechanic said landrover knew of the problem & had a fix for it. I'll look up receipt this week & try & give you more info

Thanks for your reply, I'm sure it's not water in the fuel as I drain the seperator every 5000 ks when I change the oil. Have not found water in it yet. Mind you, I only drive her on the weekends. It started to miss just a little bit around 1000 - 1500 rpm and now after 3 tanks of fuel it misses at idle to 1500 then a dead spot of no rpm increase even though I'm still putting my foot down slowly. At 2000 it will rev quickly up to 3500 blowing gray smoke. Then I have to thottle back before she blows.. still miss firing. It had a new elec fuel pump and filter fitted 20000k ago. Fuel pressure should be good and clean.
There is one injector sounding a little quiet compared to the others. Fuel bleed return seem normal.
Penny for your thoughts.

Cheers Dave,
I hope it could be something nice and easy. I know of high and low pressure fuel sensors.
Are there any more?

Well Dave, you were right. After taking the car in to "Hard Rover" in Kelmscott and had it hocked up to the hand held computer to see what the faults were, Chris found a wire on the fuel rail low pressure sensor was about to break off. The insulation was just keeping the wire strands together. Dab of solder,,, never ran so good. It least it was not the injector.
Back on the road
