Fuel sedimenter

In servicing the Ute on the weekend (oils and such) we found that the fuel sedimenter was absent. Yep. Gone.

It would appear tha whoever installed the OME shcoks found that it was in teh way of wherthey wanted to mount the remote reservoir so...

Anyway whatever the reason... I thnk it;s probably agood diea to have one to get rid of any water that might find its way in.

1. Shoudl it fit one ?
2. If so where?
3. Genuine Land Rover or after market unit? If the latter - which one ?

Oh and I suppose I'd better replace the fuel filter too.

A whole new industry has grown around in line fuel protection since the advent of common rail diesels (sensitive things they are). Any diesel specialist (like West End here in Sydney) will have something to defend against bad fuel.

Oh forgot to9 mention - 300Tdi engine in case that makes a difference.

maybe inside drivers side chassis rail, like Series with guard around it (though would have to be further rearward)

Is the genuione KLR one the best option or is there a btter aftermarket way to go (cheaper but equally or more effective) ?

I've seen glass bowl separators that fit in the engine bay just prior to the fuel filter. All you have to do is look at the bowl to know if there's any water/gunk in the system.

A lot of people buy one from Whitworth's -

Separator with a fuel filter on top. So you get pre-filtering before it gets to the lift pump.

No issues with having 2 filters (so to speak) ?
Glass bowl not an issue for harsh offroad use ?

:lol: that racor on is just a teeny bit way too expensive....

Some debate about filter on suck side of pump, but 300tdi has more lift than needed unless driving at 45 degrees. I think there's a range of filter media that can be found for CAV type filters, so you could use it as a pre-filter to stop crud getting into the lift pump.

Anyone know how much a genuine LR sedimenter is roughly? maybe its the easiest way to go.
