View Full Version : Health check for my P38.

G'day guys,

I just took my 99 P38 down to Hunter Cuthill in Geelong for a health check. The computer showed:

LHR EAS height sensor 'out of range'. Does this need replacing or can it be fixed?

O2 sensors are stuffed. Quoted $237 plus GST each for them. Are there cheaper sources of supply?

They also traced the source of the coolant leak to the valley cover gasket. Which is a pill of a job! :( Better than a head gasket, tho!

Try swapping the LHR and RHR sensors to see if the fault stays away after resetting it. You may be lucky if it has just worn out the range on the potentiometer and swapping to the other side to use a fresh range of travel. Use EAS Unlock to check and adjust heights if need be.

I'll do some sniffing and let you know if a trade supplier can do better. I'm sure you can get good pricing off eBay and UK online sites.

Cool, still a pain getting to that gasket as you will need to swap over rocker cover and manifold gaskets along the way. Could be much worse.

Cheers, Paul.

Hey Willem,

Are these the ones that attach onto the exhaust's? If so, I have a new pair on hand that you can have for $150- They were a misorder on poor advice for my 'pretty pig' (which being a '95 model doesn't even have them!).

Let me know and I'll mail them to you.

Cheers, Dave.

Just letting you know there's 2 different types of sensors for pre-99 P38s & another again for 99 onwards.

MHK100940 is the correct one for 99 onwards.

Good call Scouse, the ones I have are suitable for 95-97 models. They are LR part no. ERR1834 so no good for you Willem. Sorry again. :(

Try e-bay UK or LRDirect.com if you can wait for a couple of days. Delivered to your door they will still be cheaper than most suppliers in OZ. I just saw some britpart versions of the ones you are after for roughly 35 GBP. Multiply X 2 add the exchange rate and $30 for delivery and you'll actually still end up at around the $140-150 mark. :D
