winmail.dat Thunderbird

I am using Thunderbird for email and have the well known problem that Thunderbird cannot open winmail.dat attachments ie Outlook or Exchange emails with TNEF encoding.
Cnet has a winmail.dat reader but my explorer is warning of a security issue and blocking.
Before I try to download the reader should I be concerned about cnet?

I have already been trapped by a site which downloaded a file to my registry and then forever pushed emails.
