View Full Version : 35" skinnies???

Yes that seems a weird thought but any idea of tyre size equivalents, brands, patterns etc. for a 35" skinny???

I love my claws and the rolling diameter seems to be brilliant for on and offroad, however thinking would like to try a skinny so not pushing around as much rubber and can go for a more AT style for better onroad and beach driving.

Cheers in advance.

Michelin XZL 9x16$$$$,TSL Q78's or mud race tractor tyres. Unless you want to go Truck rims.

I know a mate selling a set of 34-11.5-15'' simex jungle trekkers if interested, they have heaps of tread and never had any puntures or anything.
$1350 with black sunraisa rims or $1200 without rims (4 of)

Hmmm looks like TSL in a 34x9 could be a contender on 16x6 rims.

You want 101 tyres (9.00x16) = 35"-36"

Michelin XZL 255x100x16 ($600-$700) (these are about 36.5")
Alliance 9.00x16 Nato Tread ($450 - $500) (these are about 35.5")
MRF 9.00x16 Bar Tread or Sand Grips ($250) (These are about 35")

Firestone and Silverstone also have a 9.00x16 equivalent but are harder to find.

All the above tyres go on a 6.5" rim.

more the gearing issues... 4.11's and a disco transfer on 33's equaled around 3100rpm at 100... 35's seem to be helping a lot though see there are a few skinny 34's so might be a good compromise.

Will see what price i can get on some options from Aus Tyre.

In addition to the above - silverstone MT117s are available in a 280x85x16 - and are 35-36" fitted.

Nath's 255/85 Maxxis tyres ran at about 35inch when new, they were a really tall tyre ;)

Nope, 33.3" for the ones I've measured (mine :D) which equals what Maxxis claim.

The 255/85 Creepy is specced at 33.5" M8090 Creepy Crawler (http://www.maxxis.com/AutomobileLight-Truck/Extreme-Off-Road/M8090-Creepy-Crawler.aspx)

the 255/85 762's that Ben and i have are specced at 33.3" and that's what they measure.

I was joking...... ;) Justin from our club was running 35x12.5 16 Creepies and mentioned that the 255/85 tyres he fitted to Nath's car stood just as tall, obviously from your response this was not correct for what ever reason......

For a 255/85/16 tyre.

Tyre is 255mm wide which is 10.039"

So tyre height is width x aspect = 10.039X.85 = 8.53315"

So the height of the tyre/wheel combo is height of tyre x2 + wheel diameter

So a 255/85/16 tyre is 8.53315" x 2 + 16" = 33.0663" +/- manufacturing tolerances.

This is no where near 35".

And sometimes the theory and manufacturing tolerances mean that tyres bear very little similarity to their supposed size.

Ive had 35"" tyres (Silverstones) that measure about the same as my 255/85 BFG's and also my 35" Krawlers measure about an inch bigger than new 35" Treps, and at least that much larger than a new 35" KM2 on a 17" wheel.

That is true but if there is more than "production" tolerance and the actual size is different to that marked etc then consumer law would apply.

I know when I was looking for tyres for the Cape last year, the Treps were advertised as being 31's but according to their website they were only 30.5, the Khumho's that I previously had were also quite a small tyre. The MTZ's and BFG Muds on the other hand are much closer to the actual stated size.

Depends on where the manufacturer measures the tyre. Some measure the overall tyre, some measure the case. Michelin is one example that spec tyre size on the case.

Tyres ain't tyres.

Creepys also crown int he centre and I beleive this crown is taken into their measurment. Hence being a small 35 & 37 when compared to other tyres ie. Bias Treps.

I would have thought that the diameter of the tyre also changes according to the width of the rim that it is on.

33", 35," width, rolling dia, rim size bla bla bla.

You are all missing the point

The most important thing is that my wife still believes that
this 0--------------------------------6" is really 6 inches.
