Feeding spotlights from New Era headlight relays

A couple of years ago I fitted a pair of New Era relays to upgrade my 110 headlights. I have a wire running directly from the alternator output to each relay.

I'll be fitting HID spotlights soon and was considering running the spotlight +ve feed directly to the high beam outlet terminal on the New Era relay to simplify the wiring.

Providing that I dont exceed the rating on the relays (30 amps??) is there a reason why this wouldnt be feasible? It might mean I couldnt have an independant dash switch for the spots but that doesnt bother me.

As long as you dont exceed the current rating the relay would be ok...

BUT......

It may not worry you, but it is a defect to have driving lights without a seperate switch in circuit to turn them off.

Also, when travelling outback, the ability to dip from:

High + Spots
to
High only
to
Low Beam

Is a far nicer scenario on your eyes!

So in this case, No... Dont wire it as mentioned, fit another relay and switch.

I agree with Tombie2. A bit of extra work but worth the effort. As an aside, I am not a huge fan of the 'newer' New Era relays (with the 30amp fuse in them.) I have had trouble with these at times in a couple of different vehicles. The older style without the inbuilt fuse were better... But you can only get the Chinese copy of the original now. Hope you have had better luck than me with these.
