Gooday guys ...first post
My wife just brought a 98 freelander (i believe the 1.8 litre k series engine), anyone recommend me a good mechanic in Adelaide that is familiar with installing the remote thermo mod that people seem to recomend it needs?
cheers in advance

If you are in the city try sovereign or north try British 4by4.
I am not sure what you mean by remote thermo mod? Do you mean a low level water alarm which is dead easy to do yourself I suggest.

Or just get the alarm via a seller on here and on your next service get in put in otherwise it could cost a bit. Minimum labour charge etc.
If its a new car to you it may pay to get it serviced anyhow.
Just my thoughts.;)

IIRC there is a modification which changes the location of the thermostat in the 1.8 Freelanders. It is intended to lessen the thermal shock to the engine when the thermostat opens.

Yep that is the info i found on this head gasket problem........I'm not really up to speed on LR's (I drive a 3.0 turbo deisel sr5 hilux) but I am a little concerned with my wifes choice in 4wd's after reading all the problems people have with them. Thx for replies.............PS I may have the opportunity to trade the car for a Turbo Diesel variant.........is that "streets ahead" pardon the pun as far as engine choice goes?
