Optimum RPMs while idling

HI,

I was wondering what the normal idling RPM's should be on the D1 v8.
The idling is hovering around the 1000rpm's on normal usage. Everynow and then it gets stuck on about 2000rpm, and then slowly comes down.

Reading through some of the threads, there are loads of tips, but im not mechanically inclined, so difficult to do anything.
I had someone take a look, and apart did a clean on the throttle body, but to no avail.

Any thoughts?

It is more likely to be the IAC valve gummed up. It is easy enough to clean youself with a bit of carby cleaner. Just unplug the wiring and unwind it from the intake manifold. Clean and refit.

Most tuning shops seem to correct any out-of-tune conditions by winding out the base idle screw. When you have cleaned your idle air control valve with carby cleaner get a 3/16 inch allen key and insert it in the hole in the top of the throttle body. Screw in the base idle screw until you get a hot idle nearer 700rpm.

A long time ago when I worked for Lube Mobile I went to an early EFI Magna that needed an oil change. The old bloke that owned it asked me to increase the idle speed a bit as well.

I cleaned the badly gunked throttle body then had to reset base idle because it was idling at about 2000 rpm. I guess whoever had been working on the car before had been winding the throttle stop screw out in their ignorance.
