Hi guys I purchased a FL SE 2001 last week. Everything was going fine until today when I pressed the rear window button to open it. It opened but now it won't shut. I pressed it a couple of times and even shut the engine then turned it back on but still it fails to close rear window.

Can you help me out here. This is frustrating especially because my vehicle is parked in the street.

Mate, use the "Search" facility in the Freelander section, which should turn up something, sometimes the wiring loom frays after a few years because of the backdoor constantly opening and closing, I believe!!!;)

Did you disconnect the battery? In such a case the rear window closing mechanism may need to be reset. I don't remember the whole procedure but the owner's handbook might contain a reference. Otherwise, do a forum search or refer to the workshop manual (from the download section I believe, otherwise contact me and I might be able to mail you a copy).
Cheers

Not sure if you mean stays completely open, or won't close all the way then opens completely by itself.
I had this happen once when I was fiddling about with something.
Process below resolved that.

Battery disconnection
If the battery has been disconnected, the
taildoor glass will need to be recalibrated. If the
alarm was armed when the battery was
disconnected (or discharged), disarm the
alarm after reconnection - the glass will fully
lower. This will happen automatically if the
alarm was in a disarmed state when the battery
was disconnected.
After battery reconnection, fully raise the glass
- the taildoor glass is now recalibrated (if the
glass is not fully raised, an error ‘beep’ will
sound).
