View Full Version : The wifes silly idea.

Was washing the wheels today, Missus comes out to ask if I wanted a coffee.
While there she asked why the little Land Rover symbols in the center of the wheels were all at different angles? After just looking at her like she had just turned blond I said because they are fixed in place & the tyres had been off at least 3 times so they all end up different.
So she asks, Why don't the just let them turn with a weight in the bottom part? Then every time you stop the would all be the right way up.
After a minute or so I asked, Why? What #%*@# difference does it make?
It would just look better. She says & went off in a huff.
Never did get a cup of coffee.

Apparently the RR in the wheel centre of a roller is always correct way up even when vehicle is moving.

So tell the missus to go buy a roller:wasntme:

Now explain to me who had the blond attack.

Your wife had a choice.

Make a ( SUPPOSEDLY ) silly remark.

OR

Make you coffee.

To me it’s a no-brainer!

I hope the reason you mentioned the fact that the wheels had been off was just so that you would not have to give a detailed explanation of why vehicles have differentials. I'm sure you realise it would have been difficult for her to understand that even if you had all the symbols lined up, just driving around the block would be enough to make them become misaligned because of the different paths taken by the wheels on the inside and the outside of the turn. :p

You guys just don't get it. No matter what they say our fair partners are always right - there's no point in using logic, explaining physics or engineering principles. Just accept what they are saying and nod agreeably or smile and agree to take under advisement their input and all will be well. To do differently is fraught with peril - as I too learned yesterday much to my chagrin.

Gee...I hate being a slow learner..........;)

Umm - I gotta ask.

What answer do you give if she askes "Do these pants make me look fat?" :o

As any bloke who has ever given the wrong answer knows - there is only one correct answer...

I do believe she has a point though.
Citroen has a steering wheel now where the centre is still.
No real reason not to engineer a hub where the outside is always facing the right way.
Its a perfectly reasonable thought that is well from outside the box.
Makes us laugh because we know why but for a person just looking at it, its fair I would think.

As for the coffee, there are just no excuses!!!

Now if you had bought a Defender, you would not have had that problem. Defenders are built without pretty little logos in the middle of the hubs, so Defender owner's wives don't get confused and Defender owners get their cups of coffee on time. :p

She's not that silly.

Some cars have stationary hubcap advertising
http://adweek.blogs.com/adfreak/images/adfleethubcaps.jpg

So do trucks (though only the hub centre as you need to see the nuts for safety reasons).

As mentioned, other luxury cars never intended to go offroad have stationary logos in the hubs - the D3/D4/newRR should be no different :p

Why do I get the feeling that you are either single or like living dangerously?

1. I have only been married 30 years so I'm still learning.
2. This is a woman that is so logical it's scary but still comes up with off the wall ideas.
3. Some how, probably to placate her, I ended up making her a Cappuccino. Love DeLonghi!
4. Your bum always looks good to me, Darling. But you know I don't know about fashion.
5. It is a cool idea. But at the time seemed really dumb.
6 I used the tyres off reason because that was the first reason that came to me.
7. Last time I said "Woman do....." I had a very quiet couple of years if you know what I mean.
8. She will remember this incident for years.:(

Well you know it is really you who are silly. The real reason is because the wheels cover different distances. If you rotated them so they were all the same way up then drove around the block they would be (slightly) different.

If he had bought a defender his wife would have had to have been taking meals out to him.

My wife and I have just enjoyed our 30th wedding anniversary 2 days ago. The one thing I have learned in all that time is:

Happy wife = happy life

Also answers like:

'Yes dear' or 'Will that make you happy...' seem to work for me. I must use the line from an earlier post 'I just don't know fashion very well...' that may even work for me.

As to the hubs and coffee situation I would have answered something like 'Gee I don't know...[feigning ignorance works]. All women like to think they are smarter than men.

Good luck fellas.

Well, with a title like that, I couldn't help but read it.

Your wife is a smart woman. She used the "Power of Distraction" (see Wifely Manual Section 3, Part 9 - the 3rd edition by the way). When you don't have time to do something, distract your man onto a different topic. It has been demonstrated through numerous studies (peer reviewed, of course) that men cannot multi-task. Hence you momentarily forgot about the coffee and she wandered off to get on to manage the myriad of balls she currently had in the air :p.

And not only that, you then made her the cup of coffee! Priceless! Maybe she wrote the manual!!?

Congratulations GeorgeK. 30 years must be something of a record these days. Defintely something worth celebrating!

Multi-tasking! I believe it was Billy Connolly who wanted to know why it is that if women are supposed to be so good at multi-tasking, how come they can't have sex and a headache at the same time. :p
