I've purchased a set of secondhand alloy rims / tyres which I'm told came off a 130 dual cab, I was told they'd fit my County okay but........
When I put the wheel on it's a really tight fit and the centre cap gets pushed out of the wheel. The dust cap on the County then obtrudes through this hole by about 20mm :eek:
So the question is are these alloy wheels not suitable for a County or do I need to change a few bits ?? The wheels look like the ones fitted to the "extreme" defenders. I haven't tried to fit one on the back yet,although I'm wondering if they will foul on the maxi drive dust covers.
Any ideas please ??

if you have the fullsize maxis
DO NOT FIT THE ALLY RIMS THAT HAVE THE KNOCK OUT CENTER.
they will seat on the maxi drive flange and not on the hub face. This is not a good thing.
I think there is a rangie ally that will do the job however the 3 spoke on is not it.

So are County axle parts different to Defenders?? Can't figure out why the caps popped off, I think the back of the wheel is fouling slightly on the nuts also.
Do you think I should return wheels and get a refund ?? I need them to be safe.

from memory its the change from the wide bearing spec to the narrow that does you in.
if you bought the wheels from a shop and gave them the specs on the vehicle you're safe for a refund, if its a private sale you're stuffed.

Now been told that these defender/disco rims will not fit a County !! However, if I fit 30mm spacers first then the rims fit fine :) I've just fitted one with spacer and it certainly looks good.
The other good point is that with the 235/85/16 tyres fitted the wheels/ tyres are just inside the arch so should be legal.
Next question then, who has spacers fitted ?? and are there any benefits ??
I would think that the steering circle would be slightly improved, do they improve handling at all ?? Is articulation affected at all ??
The original plan was for these rims to be for road use and keep the old disco rims and mt's for playing in the rough stuff.
Thoughts please before I part with anymore dollars :D

spacers are illegal.
however you can rebuild your county with deefer gear.

I didn't think that Land Rover alloys were meant to be strong enough for 130's which is why they come with steel wheels. That is what I was told back in the UK anyway. Happy to be corrected though!

Spacers them selfs are not illegal, but if you run them on your road registered vehicle you are breaking the law. they are also sold for things such as spacing a spare wheel out after fitting wider tyres etc and on comp vehicles so they are not illegal to sell, though if you baught these from a tyre fitter im am very supprised they didnt tell you this.
Perhaps you should consider after market alloys, these guys make them in rover stud patterns with various offsets.

Yep, very few alloy wheels are load rated for a fully loaded 130, one exception being the TX-1 Performance wheels Cal linked to above, they are legal fitment on a 130 as they are rated at 1400kg/wheel.
You'll probably find half the tyres we run on 130's aren't technically a high enough load rating either, at least outside 7.50/16's and 235/85's.
