Mattress in back of 110

Random question...does anyone know the feasibility of fitting a double mattress in the back of a 110??

You talking just foam say 5" (125mm) thick like from Clark Rubber or a full blown proper mattress? My 110 had a foam one in it when I bought it but obviously the previous owner had removed the rear seat and built a frame to support the foam. Fits easily enough for camping needs and you can still have your drawer under the mattress.

Yeh I'm thinking full blown double mattress.it wouldn't be a long term fit.just for a long weekend away type thing.with the back seats fully up I cant see it being at issue,just a matter of supporting it I think as it would all have to sit at the same height as the wheel arches....

Wimps. Back in 1990 the wife and I toured around in a hardtop 90. We slept in the back on a piece of board level with the top of the wheel boxes wrapped in a big quilt. The luggage was dumped into the front for the night.We had just bought the 90 so funds were scarce. The wife says we were both younger,fitter and more supple than we are now. Have always wanted to repeat the exercise in the back of the Puma 110 (the luxury of all that length), but so far have not got the wife to agree. Am trying to get her to agree to a test run in the back yard but hard to shift her when the bedroom is so close. Both agree it was possibly the best holiday we ever had.I suppose it could be deemed a little odd, telling the kids to go to bed then going out to the yard to sleep in the back of the Land Rover with the mrs.Todays younger generation don 't know what they are missing!!!

I made a platform which rested on top of two wooden rails on the wheel arches to bring it to the same level as the highest point of the folded rear seat. It is hinged so that the front part can be folded back flat on the back bit, and in this position the seat can be put up. On top of this I got a foam mattress, opened the cover and cut it at the same point as the hinge, so the mattress can be folded as well. Worked quite well.

Here is my solution. Apiece of builder's waterproof ply hinged at the appropriate measurement with a length of piano hinge This measurement is critical as you have to fold and unfold in situ without hitting the roof. Aluminium extrusions are used under for reinforcement. It now has an extra one next the hinge. The photo only shows the one at the rear. The front end is supported by ring bolts and turnbuckles connected to an NF threaded insert in the B pillar by short lengths of chain. I made it folding so I can leave the rear seats in place if required and fold the seats to use the mattress base. Note the short lengths of aluminium angle underneath for lateral location.

Not much more to say. You will fit a double mattress: as I've recently posted on another thread I have used a whole double bed on occasions (but that was sitting on the body capping of a 2 door 109). The only question would be the door frame bracing in the wagon which *might* be narrower than a standard double mattress. But I would doubt it would be by enough to make a significant difference.

I wonder if anyone has tried a water bed?:angel:

We have a draw in the back of ours with a front plate and some fold up legs for support in the front - we went away for 5 weeks and although we didnt sleep in the back every night it was really comfortable - we used an Oz trail double 4WD mattress and it fit perfectly (I wouldnt go any bigger) This is (was) the back of ours until the seats went back in. Hope it helps

Any chance you could show us a pic of the front section here? I'm thinking of knocking together something similar and am looking for ideas on how exactly to do it.
