I have a '92 disco and I'd like to get the rear wiper working a bit better. On the up stroke it is fine but on the down stroke it shudders. The blade looks to me to be at the wrong angle to the glass. I would have thought that the blade should be 90 degrees to the glass but it is closer to 45 degrees.
I thought the arm could have been bent so I replaced it with a second hand one but it came up the same. Replaced the blade holder thing but nothing. I thought maybe the spindle is out of whack but it looks ok to my eye.
Any ideas?

When they wipe, the blade moves to about a 45 degree angle as you mentioned and then flips to the other 45 degree angle as it comes back on the dowstroke.
I would be replacing the actual rubber wiper blade, even though they look ok they often cause shuddering when they are worn.
Don't get anything fancy, just a simple cheapy single blade one from supercheap or somewhere for less than $5.

On quite a few cars I have had to carefully twist the wiper arms to get the blades sitting at the correct angle to the glass. I usually use two shifters for leverage.

I used to own a 93 model that I bought new. It did that from day one, but I never bothered to try to fix it.

Done that. Replaced the rubber, didn't work. Then I changed the blade thing that the rubber sits in (name escapes me at the moment). It's pretty good, flexes well. The arm is still causing it to be on the wrong angle. When I man handle it I can see its just not going to work.

Well it is heartening to know I'm not the only one. I was thinking along the same lines as BigJon, twist the arm. The 2 shifters method sounds good. I've got 2 arms now so I should be able to get it right.

This could possibly be te eaiest repair I will ever do on my disco. 2 shifters, 2 minutes, perfect.
