Just last night out of the blue my td5 motor did not turn over.
There is power when you turn the key but no sound coming from starter motor, did check black button under bonnet but still no go.
Sounds like electrical to me but WHERE do you start.
Was able to push start and ran ok, but going around a corner it cut out and would not start at all, even with a faster pull from another vehicle, motor would turn over but would not stay on.
The "BOSS" wants to burn it, she just spent money on a gearbox rebuild a new steering box, and a new alternator so a little peeved right now:(
Can anyone point me in any direction (but not a possible burning sight) By the way all of this was happening from 11pm to home time of 2:30am poor little kids they were so tired by then and upset.
So anyway 4 hours of sleep and got again a non moving lump of metal out front of home.

I'd start with checking battery voltage/charging earth points etc. If the engine electronics can't see a good voltage then even with a tow start you won't do any good.

Why was the alternator fitted?
Suggestions:
mostly/totally flat battery?
Loose battery terminals?
Loose wiring on alternator?
Is it charging correctly?

 Alternator packed it in a while back just before my second child was born, had to charge battery every night as we could not risk having no vehicle, as it is we made the hospital by 12 mins.
Happy bouncing girl, lucky for us she came at 2am and no traffic about.
I don't think our 130 ever went that fast before.
Cheeky little girl had us waiting 2 weeks, then just bang "I want out right now"
So much for living in Melbourne, it was going to take longer for ambulance to get to us, then us driving to hospital, go figure:o

But found out that the fuel pump is not pumping as well.

Does the truck have an alarm system ? The as10 alarm system control module is behind the right hand speaker (green box). I had a td5 that wouldn't crank and tried a nanocom and couldn't see the as10 via the nanocom. I pulled the as10-let it sit for 10 mins plugged it back in and the truck started right up.

Start with the basic stuff, battery, terminals, etc and work away from there.

:):):):D:D:D It started, turned out to be the fuel pump fuze under the driver seat.
Thing is the pump is making a racket(high pitched whine and surge)
just went outside and started it up again but running rough, like on only 4 not 5 cyl.
Went for a quick drive down the street and it stalled, now can't start up again, I'm thinking now somethings up with the fuel pump or line somewhere.

Im no td5 expert but to me it sounds like your fuel pumps on the way out......or theres a wiring problem somewhere along the line. It wouldnt have blown a fuse for no reason. Silly question but have you checked that fuse again?

It's a long shot, and if the fuse blew, then it's probably the pump, but I had similar issues and it was the socket the fuel pump relay plugs into, the connection had come loose and it had got hot and melted the plastic.
I pulled the socket apart and cleaned and squashed the terminals to get a good connection.....no problems since then (touch wood)
Where in Melb are you?

Exactly the same symptons on my Td5 Discovery. Pulled the fuel pump out and found the strainer to be full of gunk. Cleaned it out and re-installed and has never missed a beat since.

If running rough, like on only 4 not 5 cyl I would have a look the filters and possible block line as well. Just wonder if the pump have problems because dirt on it.

Just to add, if the pump has stopped pumping/ air has got into the fuel lines, you can get it to purge/prime by stomping on the accelerator pedal half a dozen or so times immediately after switching the ignition on.
It takes about 5-6 times to refill the system before it will start ;)
