Provent into a TDI

:(:(OK so I have been reading all the posts on fitting a provent and so I went and bought one, now the problems start,how on earth do you fit that thing into the engine bay of a TDI? can the guy's who have worked this miracle please post a tutorial? I'm sitting here with this thing that cost me nearly $200 and I haven't a clue where to put it, except where the sun never shines.Pleeeese Heeelp:confused::confused::confused: sorry I should hav added that my ride is a Disco 300TDI

Imho using the standard drain (and replacing the factory cyclone) is probably the best way to go.

I was not happy with pipes running all around the engine bay so I took the provent and my vehicle (RRClassic with 300Tdi) to a local engineering shop, and asked him to make a collar and mount for it, so I could put the Provent in the place of the 300Tdi crankcase breather etc He replicated the crankcase breather mount to the rocker cover, and made a sleeve to go around the Provent. The sleeve was a little tight, so I played with washers between the clamp faces to get it right.

Basically, cut off the top inlet connection, fitted sleeve and rotated Provent so as the inlet manifold outlet was facing back, locked sleeve in place, drilled hole in Provent to match new inlet position.

:D Thanks for that, it looks like the best and neatest fit, I also didn't like the way both inlet and outlet faced the same way, pity the didn't design it so it could be swiveled,well that gives me the basics and now I can try to duplicate the clamp. any chance of some more pics?

Image #1 shows the o ring (covered in goop) and clamp
Image #2 shows the cut off inlet pipe and you can see the clamp/bracket covering the hole
Image #3 lets you see part of the hole drilled in Provent opposite the bracket (partly obscured by shadow).
The clamp strap is made of 1/16" steel, doubled over at the clamp. The bracket is brazed on, and inside filed to ensure smooth fitment against the Provent.

nice pics,I thought from your last pics that you had the inlet coming in central,these pics show you do. I was fiddling around getting the angle as on the original, would this make a difference?:):):beer:

it is just an input ... at rocker cover pressure, apart from creating some sort of swirl cant imagine why it is necessary. AND remember these devices are designed for much larger engines than you and I are running, so they are probably overkill anyway.

Btw - there are still ~30 people who haven't yet sent their Provent elements back to me. I would still like to receive them!!!

(and technically - you are in breach of the agreement you signed)

Those who have recently bought a Provent, I would happily exhange your used element for a brand new genuine element - as long as you can also provide details of how long it was fitted for, to which vehicle, which oil, etc...

Hey RRturboD, Thanks again for splendid idea, fits a dream, does it really need the check valve? makes it so much more difficult. Looking in the Gregory manual it shows a oil return pipe going into the sump so it would be below the oil level and not require the check valve, besides the original didn't seem to need one, just a thought:twobeers:
Hey isuzurover thought you might like to know Filter Supplies in Perth also stocks the Provent and when I contacted him about the check valve he said that must be a after market thing,interesting

Oil return line below oil level, thus, no check valve required.
