View Full Version : What Tubed Tyres Are Still Available? (For RRC)

It's time for new tyres on my '83 RRC, which has the tube-type NRC7900 three-spoke alloys.
Now, I know all the arguments for and against tubed and tubeless, but assuming no tyre shop will put tubeless on these tube rims, are there still some tyres in 235/70R16 that can use tubes? We have one tyre shop in town here, that deals with one supplier, so there's not exactly a lot of choice.
But I should be heading to the big city :p of Broome next week where I could have better luck.
Does anyone know of a tyre in this size that really is meant for tubes?

Yup, that's them. At the moment they've all got tubeless tyres. Which just doesn't seem to be a problem, and also seems to be all you can get.
But apparently it's not quite the right thing to do and you should have tubes. It's all a bit stupid, really.

i faced the same thing when i got my RRC.
the local goodyear were not fussed on putting tyres on the old rostyle rims as they only had tubless tyres.
and i hate tubed tyres after the experiences i had with them when going to cooma the other year, in the 110.
so we agreed to disagree and decided to trial 2 rims with tubes and two without to try and prove a point.
i am running roadstone AT LT tyres, which seem to be an outstanding tyre for the $139 ea i paid for them btw ;)
i can tell you that after some 20k+ kilometers that tubed tyres definitely run hotter and are rougher riding at the same pressure.
but to my surprise the wear seems to be exactly the same.
(touching wood when i say this) and i haven't had a problem with any of them. they all hold air as well as each other and i haven't had any punctures.
if my associate ever succumbs to my constant nagging, i will be putting tubeless tyres on the 3 spoke mags i get from him :p
