Just got my wheels balanced on the Puma. Ive had a bit of wobble in the front end and the feeling a tyre was way out of round. I have always put it down to the Toyo muds. After much prompting by the son and my wife I took it to Wilkinsons and within 5 minuites they found that the contact surface of my rim was the thin strip of metal on hub trim cap. As it pushes through from the hub side of the rim it has no slot to sit in and so sits between hub and rim, not good, its about 2.5 mm thick. I've had these wheels balanced twice before and both times the problem was un sighted, guess who will be doing my wheel align and balance from now on.

Do you have any photo's to show what you mean..I find this very confusing. You mention the hub trim cap, do you mean the center cap of the wheel that clips in??? if so that's plastic (assuming your talking about the original boost alloys and not TX1 performance alloys) and that's why I'm finding it very hard to understand what your talking about

They are a steel centre cap that pushes through from the hub side of the rim. This has a lip on the inside of the centre cap and its this lip that is the problem. I am going to try to source another type cap this week.

cap does not allow wheel to sit flush on hub.

I think this is what the problem is. If so then take a bur or grinder to back of wheel to make a recess to allow cap to sit in.

Thanks for your help, that is the problem and I will do as you have sugested.

Would it not be better to adjust the cap than the wheel? I imagine it's much more expensive to fix a mistake if done the way you suggest. And more likely to run into warranty/safety issues if the worst should happen.

you pays your money and you takes your chances.

he is a big boy and should be able to work out if he should do it or not.

given the wheel is held by the studs from the hub i doubt that removing 1 or 2 mm from the back of the center of the wheel where it does not carry any load is going to matter very much.
