Hey do you lot have a whopper for the non-flash ECU's? :(

disco_thrasher

Hey Simon i dont have one ,,,i think Mike does one for non flashable , my sugestion would be to get a NNN ecu as fine tunning is easier to achieve as well at alows you to have a couple different maps at hand
but ask Mike if he has the gear to do non flasable i am sure i read somewhere he does it

Cool, I thought that may be the way to go. There is never a good time to buy a new ECU but thats prob the way to go then.

So are they available in Melb and do you have free re-mapping is some muppet at a service centre wipes it ??

LOL the amount of times thats happened is astonishing:eek::mad:

yes you will need a nanocom and i send it to you via the computor you then load it to your nanocom then write it to your car ,so by saving the map on your computor or nanocom you will always have it ,so to make sure the map is only used for the inteneded car the injector codes are save gaurded in the map so it can not be loaded onto another car
cheers Kelvin

disco_thrasher
28th September 2010, 06:45 AM
Yeah it does but it means posting your ecu to europe ,they will do that map but prefer a flashable as once they put a chip in and send it back to you for fine tuning you then have to send it back to them back and forth you know what i mean at least with a NNN computor fine tunning can be done over the computor

I am currently running one of these Stage 2 maps in my car, and also have another map to test from Kelvin/Jose.

First impressions are very good. Much smoother, much more torque low down, and obviously more power.

I will post up some more detailed comments in a couple of weeks after returning from a trip to Fraser. With back to back comments to the std ecu as I have the map on a different ecu.

I have recently purchased and loaded a STG2 map for my TD5 From TD5Inside and I am thoroughly enjoying the difference it has made to the wagon. The car just accelates now at any throttle input, where as before it would stop and think for a while before anything happened. Much more enjoyable to drive, smoother with more torque low down.
If your in the market for a remap suggest you contact Kelvin and see how they can help you.

are the power improvements before I upgrade turbo or intercooler?

disco_thrasher
8th October 2010, 09:52 PM
power improvements are not gauged on turbo or intercooler uprades but mods which are better to have are egr removal /muffler removal but are not essentail but will improve performance on remap for a stage 3 map intercooler is highly recommended

Another happy customer here!

Kelvin provided my stage 2 remap within 24hrs. The map installed without any problems and made a huge difference to the way the car drives.

I still have some waste gate adjustments to make and then fine tuning to the map to be done but I am extremely please with the result. Thanks Kelvin.

Just bought a stock D2 TD5 2003, I'm searching for all the possible solution to increase the power and perhaps saved some fuel consumption. I've actually blank off my EGR but not much improvement noticeable. Do you mind to explain to me what Stage 1 remap required compare to stage 2?

When I first contacted last year José my email ended up in his spam folder on the first couple of tries. I ended up contacting José via a PM on the forum and once the lines of communication were established I've had no issue getting a response. The issue was that José wasn't aware that email was being automatically moved to the spam folder but I believe that is now resolved.

I'd definitely give the Td5Inside the thumbs up. I've been very happy with the process and outcome of working with José.

Recently removed the mid-box and EGR removal two week back, now running a whole load better than standard, and have got the bug ! Have read many of the threads on re-maps, what is the difference between a stage 1 and stage 2 ? I live in Warrandyte and will have to get access to a nanocom, and also on a tight budget, so this will be final mod, no plans to change the intercooler.

Looking for a bit more go primarily, so what are the differences and is there additional cost for a stage 2 ? I have a 2003 Disco 2. Help greatly appreciated.

d2dave
25th September 2015, 07:40 AM
I am still a bit in the learning stage myself, but my understanding is with a stock intercooler is if you go too aggressive with the fuel map you risk running very high EGT's

It is for this reason I have a new allisport intercooler in the shed waiting for time to fit it.

Neavesie
25th September 2015, 07:57 AM
Intercooler would help, even though i hadnt done this with mine. You may get more heat in your auto box if you have one so a bigger auto cooler (cheap if you do your research). More power means more heat in a TD5. Ive got a Stage 2 remap and the power is noticeable and fuel consumption went down a tad. The biggest drawback is the autos. Need a low stall torque converter to stop the engine from screaming. Id highly recommend it as its the biggest and most noticible mod you can do in my opinion, you get the low rev power like the V8s. Basically the maps are power and fuel unless you get a stage 3. Its all power I hear but a TD5 would still be good on fuel I would think... No regrets here and I would never own a TD5 without a remap and a better TC, it really transforms into a smooth powerhouse.

With the td5inside maps, Jose will dial in the performance you want, including making changes if you want to alter all for the same price. Well respected remap at one set price including multiple changes.

Stage 1 is pretty mild, increasing stock torque from 300Nm to 350Nm or so. A very safe remap. Stage 2 and you pushing up to 400Nm. You definitely want to add an EGT to monitor exhaust gas temps at this point. The D2a has a larger intercooler than the 10P engined D2, so this helps, but if you are wanting to go more agresive then an intercooler upgrade is very good idea. But Jose will dial in as much extra power and torque as you want (within limits). Just specify what you want to achieve.

The other consideration is the gearbox is rated for 380Nm, so whilst it can take a bit more, you need to respect that you are adding more stress on the drive train. Plus a remap which pushes the boost too high will need a boost limit box to trick the ECU to not go into limp mode. There is some upside boost available over the stock set up, unless you have already wound the boost up to max.

And when the power bug has fully bitten you, then td5inside now also do a turbo upgrade and a stage 3 map to dial in 500Nm....but now you will want to upgrade the transmission.

Is there a way to tell which stage remap a vehicle has? I had a mechanics remap mine but i cannot remember if was stage 1 or 2 from them? Or if its just a remap of no specific stage? I have a nanocom now and we have two d2s one manual and one auto. Am interested in purchasing remaps from you, can i use a remap thing on my nanocom for both of our td5s?

Stage is a defined measure by each tuner.
So a Stage 1 from BAS may be very different to a Stage 1 from TD5 inside.

Thanks Tombie,

I want to use TD5 Inside, any idea what is the maximum safest stage mod I should go for without changing the intercooler ? I have a 2003 D2 so have the uprated model to start with. Lots of hills out my way and the Disco gets found out on the hills, and I particularly don't enjoy it when it is another 4wd putting distance between them and me !

Just talk to Jose. Tell him what you want. He will send you a tune and if it's too much or too little, let him know and he'll send you tune with more or less as you need.

I ran my first for about 4 months and found it was a bit too much. EGTs were getting a bit high and I was using a bit too much fuel. I let him know and he sent me another.

Stage 1,2 or 3 its just a way of puting the td5 potential in numbers :) Each remap is unique made according to exact specs of the car and driving style/request.

If you send me your current map file I can tell you what you should expect in terms of power.

You can use nanocom to remap both the manual and automatic, but of course each map its unique to each car.

Will my ecu have the map file in it somewhere as it was done at triumph rover spares? Im going to ring them and just ask i think LOL. Or find my invoice. For stage 2, why is it recommended cat be changed/removed? My partner is asking :) egr was just removed on his.

Your ecu will hold your map file and you can copy your current map to a SD card on your Nanocom, or download a map from the SD card. You cant look at the map on your Nanocom though.
As for the cat, a mod or removal gives you less restriction on exhaust flow.

If the exhaust manifold is leaking, does this have any bearing on the re-map, or is it something that needs to be sorted before any further mods are made. I am trying to do as much work as I can myself, but to get the manifold skimmed and done professionally is something I haven't planned on and have no budget for ?

I dont really think it would effect a map but id fix your manifold anyway. Maybe someone around here could share some knowledgeable insight if im wrong.

Boost is pressure... If its leaking its bleeding exhaust gas which means less at the turbo to drive it...

Look for a popular person or business on AULRO and send them a message. Otherwise look for a popular website, contact them and they will advise you what they need from you to make a map. There's a few popular one's a few of us are using. Its common to be emailed a map file but some may send you an SD or CD. I've only delt with TD5Inside and had the whole NNN delivered ready to just plug in and enter the EKA code. My ecu was the old type. Im very happy with my Stage 2 map. Im sure others will have some more suggestions for you.
Good luck and enjoy.

What do you mean by "Initial readings"? Do you mean down load the current engine map or record outputs like boost, airflow etc?

You can save current data from different areas within the nanocom. E.G. slabs, engine... and save it over your new map if thats what you are reffering to. Thats how I originally updated my new map from old ecu to the new nnn ecu. If you dont know already make sure your battery is fully charged and keep the charger on while using nanocom. They like all the power they can get. This will help reduce bad reads..

Hi. I have a 99 TD5 D2 which has had a lot of engine work done. It also has your sticker on the rear quarter window. Im guessing thus means you guys have done work on it at one stage. Would it be possible to get a work or order list? I am just trying to track down the cars full history.
