DIN66 Size batteries for a Defender

Hi

For those trying to squeeze dual batteries under a Defender seat box ....

I replaced my starting battery with a DIN66 sized one yesterday. I've always had N70 size starting batteries which are about 220mm high and 300mm long and when you combine that with a second similar sized second battery for the fridge, well we all know how squeezy it can get.

The DIN66 size is intended for euro cars but is not as high nor long. 175mm high and 278mm long. Makes getting it in and out a lot easier.

I bought a Supercharge Gold MF66 for $185. 670 CCA and an RC of 120 so should be fine for my 300TDi.

A lot easier to fit in than the N70 series.

I have a Defender Tdi and am looking to put a starting battery and deep cycle battery in uder the seat there, Obviously I need batteries with sufficient capacity to start the vehicle without dramas and run accessories for some time.

At the same time I need batteries that will fit, say a TJM dual battery tray.

Further these batteries need to be inexpensive.

isuzu110 - where di you get the supercharge gold ?
(Also whats the 'RC" mean? )


I hear that Caterpillar batteries are also good and inexpensive so I'm thinking of going that way - but again I need to knwo what size (both physically and capacity wise) I can use to ensure they will fit in a TJM batery tray (I['ll be buying one tomorrow I think - not enoiugh time to buggerise around fabricating one).

RC is Reserve Capacity. As I'm using this as a starter battery only, less relevant to me

google says "Reserve capacity is the number of minutes a battery can maintain a useful voltage under a 25 ampere discharge. The higher the minute rating, the greater the battery's ability to run lights, pumps, inverters, and electronics for a longer period before recharging is necessary. The 25 Amp. Reserve Capacity Rating is more realistic than Amp-Hour or CCA as a measurement of capacity for deep cycle service."

Re CAT batteries, a mate and my father purchased deep cycle CAT batteries some time back. Neither lasted long and my father had issues with CAT's warranty. Hastings Deering at Archerfield/Rocklea will sell you one.

Yeah i was trying to avoid a trip to Rocklea - other side of town for me.

That site doesnt say much - no details of which batteries they sell etc. The Nundah one is closest to me.

Maybe other places seel the Supercharge battereis as well.

There used to be an AULRO discount though on these batteries (via the warehouse at Willawong) I think its what I bought for my last Defender !!!!
