Broken timing belt?

Gday all I have a 300tdi defender. when I went to pull out of a carpark the car stopped like it had run out of fuel (I thought it had because the fuel was very low on my way to get some) so I took car out of gear and pushed it to a car park. went and got some fuel and tried to pump up with the lift pump but wouldnt start, cracked no 1 injector no fuel cracked the fuel filter have fuel cracked one of the lines coming from injector pump no fuel , towed car home had another look and now Im thinking timing belt if it is what sort of damage could have been done from attempting to start it considering it was a very low speed stop. hope this makes sense

Low speed stops make no difference.
At the very least you will have some bent push rods. Worst case, broken rockers, lifters, valve guides, cracked pistons.
Usually its just push rods.

The pushrods are the weak link, so i may should have just bent a few of those. Easy to replace, but make sure when replacing them the lower end in properly in place, otherwire the brass retainers break, and it's a head off job to replace those.

Take the oil fill cap off and see if the rockers move while someone cranks the engine.It's uncommon for any damage to happen internally if the belt lets go. Pat

Not a problem and easy to fix

I have done it twice to the same engine. Once was a full revs coming out of a large mud hole. You know it is not good when the engine goes from full revs to nothing instantly

Land rover use s2 and 3 push rods which are cheap and they use them as a week point for this very thing

As said take of the rocket cover and take of the rocker arm and have a look at the rods. They just pull out and easy to replace along with tappet's last time I did 4 push rods and two tappet's
And then put a new cambelt on but check the pully tensioner as that is what caused mine to go

Its very rare to damage pistons in a 300TDi more likely broken rockers or bent pushrods. The valves are perpendicular to the pistons so not very likely to bend those either. To check take rocker shaft off and usind a straight edge check valve stem heights. I cant remember wif its inlet or exhaust but 1 set is shorter than the others. When replacing cam belt ALWAYS check pulleys if in doubt replace they are not overly expensive!

sorry for the late reply I had another look and found a wire hanging after searching for where it could connect to I realised that it had come of the injector pump:eek: put it back on and away she went:) thanks for all the replies Cheers Andrew
