80" engine mounts

I was looking through a Blackwoods catalogue and found this: these mounts would be ideal for 80" engine and series 1 transfer box mounts .

I think the bolts are a stepped bolt .. with a 5/8" collar from memory , this equates to about 16mm, so ideal - M104 and M107 . They come in various load ratings too

4 Wheel Drives in Blackburn had them in stock a while ago for a reasonable price. They had a special price on ebay so I got some for the gearbox on my '56. Not sure if they still have them but worth a try.....

Just had a look on line and their part numbers are GR1 & GR2 for the 2 parts of each mounting. Listed at $19.8 for the 2 parts. Not sure if they have stock but worth a call.

Yep OK Colin

But you have to be very carefull with 4 wheel drives rubber products .. they tend to sell low quality rubber junk made in INDIA . The 80" starter motor rubber thingys being a case in point, they lasted about 6 months before disintegrating ( actual case from a friend ) .

The Blackwoods type , I notice have the steel ring around the mount, this is essential as it prevents the mount from squashing out under load, the cheaper ones dont have the steel ring . Not sure what 4 wheel drives sell but I'd be very dubious !

I haven't fitted them yet so I'm interested to hear how you get on with the Blackwoods mounts. I checked the Mackay catalogue and they also still list mounts for Series 2, 2a & 3.

I haven't had any problems with parts from 4 Wheel Drive's in the past. I'm aware that a lot of their parts are from India but a lot also turn up in Bearmach packets. It seems that their bearings and now rubber products are dubious.......

The service life will probably be effected if you dont get the 'nip' right as described in the attached extract from the workshop manual. I guess it is to get the right amount of preload on the rubber?

i bought mine from a Hot Rod shop in USA, they are the same part as on the 1932-48 Ford Mercury Flat top Engine Mounts. i've got them installed on my 86" i remember paying $16US a Pair.

I agree with Series1Buff, there is so much poor quality rubber boots etc out there that it's annoying when you go to so much work to replace a part and it fails a short time down the track. I replaced all the steering ball joints on my Series 3 and less than twelve months later the rubber boots on them all are starting to perish.

Does anyone have any clues as to where I can get some good quality rubber boots to replace these with?
