Finally went out and purchased a Mico sd card reader (external shintaro) and loaded 4gb of music onto my GPS.
It now transmits that via FM to my radio and i get-
to keep all my steering wheel controls
to play all my mp3's
to use my GPS
to keep the original HK head unit.
am NOT sure what gunna happen when Miss Know It All speaks,,
but I can read tulips;):D

Well done, Pedro.
Tell me, do you have any interference on the radio while playing from the GPS? I get a high pitched squeal, and it doesnt seem to matter where I tune it into.
What frequency are you using?

Thanks for that.
Another quick question, where is your GPS mounted in relation to the radio, daddyo?

directly above,,
sitting "in" the pencil tray,,
though I might have to relocate as it gets quite hot there---:spudnikboil:

Cheers.
Might try that. Mine is currently sitting to the right of the steering wheel, against the A pillar. Could be at the limit of the transmission range.

no,,
its gotta reach the rear side window--
so anywhere on the dash(by my reckoning) should work,,
unless YOU are actually stopping the transmission waves,,?
(in-between the binnacle and the A pillar is where I keep the brake controller)

umm. Isn't proximity to the aerial more important than to the radio?
If there is interference I wonder if it is coming from something in the binnacle?

Your right. I "forgot" that the aerial is on the rear glass.
Just wondering if the GPS uses the power lead as an antenna, or if it has an inbuilt one to transmit the signal.
If it is using the power lead, then it could be the way I have it currently set up.
The squeal is without a doubt coming from the GPS, as when it is not transmitting the radio only has a slight hiss, which is what I would expect.
Might have to have a bit of a play & move some things around.

It's the TD5. I have the same thing playing songs via bluetooth to my Pioneer head unit. The TD5's are notoriously electronically noisy. I assume that this would affect radio signals as well.
My old man used to install HF radios for a friend of his who sold them. The first ever TD5 Defender he did he had all sorts of trouble with the electronic noise interfering with the tuning etc. It took quite a while and lots of working with Codan and Barrett to fix it. Can't remember what they did in the end to fix it.
A power filter may help.

That may be true but remember the large number of computers in the D2 and with all that wiring it is quite possible for there to be an inductive current building up.
I wonder if it is the proximity to the windscreen that might be causing the problem? You know, with all the heater wires running through it.
Just a thought.
