Land Rover's critical new Range Rover Evoque (http://www.autoblog.com/2010/09/21/paris-preview-land-rover-reveals-the-evoque/) debuted today at the Paris Motor Show (http://www.autoblog.com/category/paris-motor-show/), ushering in a brave new world for the British off-roader brand. The debut continues the company's march toward the softroader segment, a movement first started with the LR2/Freelander and now resulting in the handsome new three-door seen here.

Slated to be joined shortly by a five-door version (http://www.autoblog.com/2010/09/24/paris-preview-five-door-range-rover-evoque-caught-prepping-for/), the compact Evoque fits right into the Land Rover (http://www.autoblog.com/make/land-rover/) mold design-wise, albeit with a surprising amount of surface jewelry for such a sleek two-box shape. From the protruding fog lamps to the horizontal matte chrome-trimmed hood intakes to the unique divots atop the wheel lip moldings and the somewhat fiddly taillamp lenses, there's quite a bit to draw one's eye. The overall impression one gets of the vehicle on the show floor is one of imposing width, a feeling that's magnified when you realize that an individual of average height can see over the vehicle when standing next to it.

The drivetrain is no less revolutionary for the brand, with a 2.0-liter turbo four pushing out 240 horsepower through a new permanent all-wheel-drive system. Key options for the Evoque include Adaptive Dynamics and Magneride adaptive damping and a massive panoramic roof which makes the interior feel like a greenhouse even on the Paris show floor. While the littlest Rover lacks the full-on four-wheel-drive weaponry of its bigger siblings, it does feature the latest distillation of the company's Terrain Response Control, and with good arrival and departure angles, it should still be better than most crossovers when it comes to tackling off-pavement activities.

The Evoque won't go on sale globally until next Fall, so for now you can try to make heads or tails out of the low-slung Landie by perusing our galleries below and reading the official press verbiage after the jump (http://www.autoblog.com/2010/09/30/range-rover-evoque-paris-motor-show-2010/#continued).

i quite like it, im curious what the pricing will be for the australian market.

Land Rover need a small SUV vehicle priced between 30-40k to compete with the Rav 4, X trails etc.

I doubt this will be it given its Range Rover tag.

Always assumed a left hand drive has everything mirrored down the centerline of the car when compared to a right hand drive. Looking at the interior pictures it seems not, accelerator is still the right hand pedal.

I placed an order for a silver one 2 weeks ago.
They have no specs on them yet but believe we will get a tdi and a turbo petrol.
I just`ordered silver with leather and auto.
He reckons they will be all auto anyhow.
I be one of 1st to get it if not too fussed with what options.
First to land here be the 2 wheel drive model they reckon which suits me fine as less maintenance, better economy and lower price.
August next year and price between $45-55k.
Keep you posted.
Oh and its for the wifey.

sounds good Big Guy, I would have hoped the pricing would have been 10k cheaper than that.

Cool I want one shame its a few too many dineros though.

For that mone (for me) a FL2 represents better value and has some off road ability.

STill the evoque looks cool.

I agree, and it has more space.

I take it the Evoque is 2 door only, no 4 door models.

I was told the 2 door is being released 1st and 4 door later.

I like the FL2 also, its my wifes ride though and she is more into what looks the goods than whats under the bonnet, hence the poverty pack 2 wheel drive.
Its basically going to be a town car for kid and dog and odd trip to shack but no towing or anything.
It will be so full of electrics I was told the hood will probably never be opened by me as it be all plastic and wires under there.

Only 110 months now>:D

I did like the original concept vehicle very much, so much so the better half and myself were seriously considering one. But seeing what they release in Paris, I’m a little disappointed. The exterior changes I can live with, but the interior on the production model is bland. Too far from the concept for liking. I (we) will go down and check them out once they hit the show room floor. But for right now my money stays in my pocket. My opinion only. Wish Land Rover all the very best with this vehicle, I hope it sells well for them.

Big Guy, any idea if they will be displaying one at the Sydney Motor Show in a couple of weeks?

I am not sure but if or when I get an email from them I cc you in and if they have one, and I get a invite you can have it since I am near the pointy end of a big project I am doing and can not get away.

In November I will pay a deposit to confirm my order and make sure I get kept in the loop and I really want one of 1st ones here.

Not sure why exactly since wifey be driving it but just the thrill of something completely new I guess.

I like the look of them. I thought they originally were going to be only 2wd but from the Paris show says they will be AWD. I read somewhere they were looking at $70k for them.

I read somewhere that they would be offered in FWD and AWD.

I am hoping its not $70k as that would not be under the luxury car threshhold.
In which case, I am defu=inately not getting one.
Exchange rate has some play in that too.
I shall wait and see.:o
