G'day all
Well tinkering with the disco today well I gave it a once over with a change of oils and checked out the top of the injector pump, put everything back and now she's go no go lol. Hoses are fine boost gauge is reading very slowly to about 10psi where before she flew to around 19psi. Any ideas? Oh one thing I noticed was like a corroding substance inside the top cover of the injector pump, can I put some wd inside to clean things up? Talkin about where the diaphram sits lol

did you revolve or touch the diaphragm in any way?
Is the pipe leading to the top of the housing tight/ washers refitted?

G'day justinc
I did remove the diaphram but did take notice where it was positioned ( have done some reading on here :)) but did notice when taking it out I had to turn the diaphram several times to get it out, was wedged in there pretty good lol. Also noticed alot of gunck, sort of podeery substance inside.
Took it for a drive again and same thing, no power plant the foot to the floor, kick down engaged and still hard to get up there. Hoses are all fine new washes in ahhhhhh yeah changed transfer case oil, both diffs and engine oil. Strange lol
Cheers spanners.

what condition is the diaphram in?
What else did you check over on the car?

Sounds like the governor pin is siezed back in, causing no enrichment. when you removed the diaphragm and you had to rotate it a few times, that was the governor pin stopping the cone/plunger etc coming out. It sometimes gets stuck in and won't pop out again on its own.
To check this, remove the plunger and diaphragm again, remve the throttle plate etc taking note where it is positioned (MARK everything) and you will notice a plug you can undo with a hex key, facing back toward the rear of the engine. Undo this plug, and that is the governor pin bore. Use some CRC or similar and move the pin back and forth until it is freed up. It runs through an oring, which can cause it to stick if pushed back fro its normal operating range, like when the diaphragm is removed.

G'day ace
Pretty much changed just changed all oils, one shot the swivel heads and had a look in the top housing of the injector pump. Like I said to justinc I replaced everything back to how it was so it's very weird oh and checked the intercooler hoses which where all fine.

Hey thanks justinc was having a bit of a read and thought of the pin myself but wasn't sure, will check it first light. Mmmmmm thinking the worst now but is it possible to break the pin while taking the diaphram out?
Thanks spanners

No, can't break it that way, it is hardened steel. Very likely it is just sticky, as you mentioned there was some goo in there, possibly a bit built up on the pin too.

while you are servicing things check the sediment trap back near the fuel tank, thats what killed my injector pump a couple of years back.
I dont think it had ever been changed and it filled up with water and gunk and when it was full it was allowing the stuff through the fuel system and into the injector pump which promptly ate it from the inside out, mine was beyond reconditioning and the whole casing needed to be replaced.

Justinc : no problem mate thank you. Oh before I forget is there a way to give it a good clean where all that gunk is? What is all that buildup?
Ace : was going to do it today but ran out of daylight after I fix this sticky pin will attempt it again.

no worries, I wish i had known about it, would have saved me $2500.
A reco'd one was $1200 exchange, but of course mine couldnt be reco'd could it.
Let us know how you go with the pin. Cant see it being anything else you didnt change anything else.

The gunk could be some of the assembly grease on the inverted cone shaft set hard etc, OR sometimes some diesel etc will leak in the the well, and then bacteria etc will grow over time. Also, due to oil mist through the intake system and intercooler etc, some will get blown through the pressure line into the pump top chamber whee the diaphragm is.

G'day guys,
Well problem fixed today. I was having power/boost problems which ended up being the govonor pin sticking in the top housing of the injector pump (thank you justinc). Took off the accelerator plate, undone the torx bold to get access to the pin and used some wd40 and manualy push the pin in and out until nice and smooth. Placed the plate back (which was bloody fun lol) and all is well. Thanks to everyone for your help. God I love a challenge ;)
