Land Rover (http://www.autoblog.com/land+rover/), as we've reported (http://www.autoblog.com/2013/10/14/land-rover-lr2-freelander-lr4-discovery/) earlier, is in the midst of a massive product reallignment. Everything in its product portfolio, we've been made to understand, is being compartmentalized into three families: Luxury, Dual Purpose and Leisure. The first will be made up of Range Rover (http://www.autoblog.com/land+rover/range+rover/) models, the second out of the next-gen Defender family, and the latter built around the Discovery. Which is all well and fine to theorize about, but what we have here is the first physical example of Land Rover putting that plan into action.
Spied undergoing testing is the replacement for the Freelander, known to us as the LR2 (http://www.autoblog.com/land+rover/lr2/), to Land Rover engineers as the L550 and in theoretical terms as the "baby Discovery". That's because the successor to the current Freelander is being aligned closer to the Discovery/LR4 (http://www.autoblog.com/land+rover/lr4/), both in terms of its orientation and styling.
Sources indicate that the L550 is being spun off of the Evoque platform, and will arrive in both five- and seven-seater forms. Expect familiar Jaguar (http://www.autoblog.com/jaguar/) Land Rover engines to provide the motivation when the new LR2 rolls our way. But for now you can scope out the spy shots in the gallery above for a closer look at what to expect.

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars - Autoblog (http://www.autoblog.com/2014/01/18/barrett-jackson-2014-1970-plymouth-superbird/)
In 1983 I was offered one for US 8,500. It was up in Owatonna, Minnesota, and owned by an employee of a company my employers represented here. I did the sums and reckoned I could land it here and convert it to right hook for about A$15,000. At the time I had just sold a couple of blocks of land and was travelling quite well. I bounced this off the cook who went mental. So, no Superbird for Brian. I had a 1970 Dodge Challenger with Hemi 426 which was sold after getting married in 1975 to buy household goods. I have ever since wanted another Hemi muscle car. Now genuine ones are too expensive for me.

It's like real estate. You have to accept that you sold it for its market value at the time. I do remind her occasionally that the Dodge Challenger convertible which was sold for $5000 in 1976 to buy white goods, furniture, carpets, etc. now sells in the USA upwards of $300,000. Then there were the cars I had in my teens and early twenties that are now worth vast sums. A Ferrari 212 Export, 1935 Auburn boat tail roadster (unsaleable and dumped), 1935-36 Chrysler C8 eight seat limousine, Bugatti Type 37 with Dodge Six engine.

lhd, so usa, stupid yanks, putting the coil there, must have had a lot of failures, bonnet springs etc look ford, bonnet pins, so a special one,
but the big hemi on the aircleaner states that it isn't a ford,
and there are bulges on the guards which might just be there to allow the tyres some room as it is lowered.
dunno, so why did I post?
Bulges on the top of the guards are a working part of the aerodynamic setup. Relieves pressure build up in the wheel wells at 200mph?

From memory, with regards to the Superbird, you could buy the base model vehicle, then option all the extras including bodykit to bring it up to the same spec as the Superbird, and it would cost you less. The base model is actually a rare item these days, as most of them were optioned up.

No, they are there to stop the tyres rubbing on the underside of the guards during full down force episodes at high speeds on the banked super speedways. Remember, these are 200 mph cars.

By the time i was interested in cars it was mainly Holdens and Toranas, late 60's onwards, for some reason, we didn't take much interest in older vehicles or the vehicles from the US,or other brands except for Fords, and Rover products.

I was interested in ALL cars as a kid. Less so American cars, but only because I didn't see many. Family had MGs, Daimlers, Rollers and Bentleys. No, we weren't rich, but my "uncle" was. Mates had Holdens, so I had to become a Ford man. Wouldn't have cared a jot for LR if it hadn't been for the Army.
Mum told a story about me and cars from when I was 3.... No, I'm not repeating it here...

Thats them, some had a crane arrangement on the rear.
One eventually pulled the LWB Series 3,we had at the time, out of Eli Ck,with another Series LR on the front helping.
There is actually a dump of a lot of the logging/sand mining machinery on the island, including a few LR bits and pieces,a short walk from one of the main tracks.
Very interesting for those that are interested in that sort of equipment.Pretty tough on machinery in those days, lots of broken diffs, etc, etc.

Nah, there was the Custom 300 and the Fairlane 500. I think (not sure) that the Oz 300 had a 6-cylinder engine. It was well over 60 years ago that I drove that.

That was back when I had a Morris Z that I used to drive to a friend's place along Beaudesert Rd in Calamvale. Well before I was 16 when I drove my unregistered 1938 Vauxhall in 1964 from Calamvale (Qld) to St Marys in Sydney's west.

A bit before that time a friend of my father got into trouble after his truck was spotted driving past the police station in Parramatta apparently without a driver - his 12yo son was pretty short and could barely see over the dash.
My driving experience before getting a learner's was limited to the back paddock except for one occasion when I was asked to move the car to the end of the road in the face of an approaching fire (Dad stayed to defend the house).

Although the S1 used to go for a small jaunt up and down the driveway on the starter every now and then.
Guns were more our go,I will never forget the day we decided to take the 12 gauge up into what is now the Daisy Hill state forest.
