Hmmm my 2003 fender having bad day - wont start

Today I drove to work in my defender and though gee that fuel pump sounds like crap (noticed it a few days ago) went back out to go down the street, reversed up, it cut out then wouldnt start. Fuel pump is squeeling pretty bad. My trainee offered to tow me in his surf, decided I couldnt handle the ripping he was going to give me (been hanging it on him a bit lol), so had to get it towed by my mates patrol. :(

Any ideas? does it sound like my fuel pump died? There doesnt seem to be any fuel leaks at all. Sort of bit annoyed, weather changed to raining now have to ride dirtbike to work lol.

Hopefully mechanic will have some good news for me.

the bulk flow check for the fuel pump is to remove the drain bung from the filter and turn the engine to the run position, if it doesnt flow anything its either from a lack of voltage or a stuffed pump.

grab the rave and find he fuel pump relay, some quick checking with a multi meter will allow you to roughly work out if its the pumps electrics or not.

if you hear the pump trying then its usually got enough life in it to get you to idle.

I did notice a brown wire had come off what looked to be a relay under drivers seat, looked pretty corroded I pushed it back in, but may not be in to good. You think this could cause it? sorry I am not very mechanically minded. I am ok with motorbikes, just not the best with cars. Pretty new to all this

motorbike and cars share the same technologies (well almost cars get diesels and turbos motorbikes generally dont)

a brown wire is typically a hot or switched 12V feed and if its come off from the relays under the seat then its a pretty important feed and needs to be in correctly.

Would bet you need a new fuel pump, my 03 def f/pump failed 2 days after a trip to cape york.
If you want the next one to last, try not to run the tank too low, the thing needs to stay wet to last.

Yeah I never run the tank too low, but did this week, long range tank too. Still had just under 1/4 on gauge

To make me evern happier my motorbike doesnt want to go either lol. Only a dead battery but gee I have had horrid luck

All fixed now, dead fuel pump, I am extremely happy with the mechanic. Hiline 4x4 in traralgon do an awesome job!!!
