Hi robngab,
For what it is worth, here are my suggestions:

3.0 Lt Diesel engine (towing)
SE model
Rear airconditioning (had the D3 without, now have it in the D4)
E-diff (for the extra money, it is worth it)
Auto high beam (bit of a **** factor, but for an extra $400.00 its worth it)
Mudflaps.
Bonnett protector
On top of these suggestions, I fitted the following after market bits:

DVD players to headrests wired to second battery.
Second battery.
Fridge point in rear of wagon wired to second battery.
Reversing camera (a must for hooking up van etc)
Everyones needs are different. Hope this helps.
Cheers, Craig

I went for the HSE after owning a SE D3.

Agree that rear air cond is necessary if you have kids.

Forget the LR Rear Screen Entertainment and go for a ROSEN one instead for half the price (LR dealer in Adelaide recommended this and its brilliant)

E-diff is a must if ordering new - its relatively cheap and when it comes to selling the car its the first thing serious 4wdrivers ask - I have no doubt an e-diff optioned car will sell quicker than one without! It should be a no brainer decision for anyone ordering any Disco 4.

I went with adaptive headlights with high beam assist and they are incredible headlights.

The rest, well, nice but REALLY necessary....no...just nice to have.

My 2 cents worth...

Minimum personal recommendation:

Active Electronic Rear Locking Differential
Bi-Xenon Headlamps
7 seat leather
Rear view camera (not sure if you have to have the sat nav for this)
Bonnet protector
Window tint (after market)
Boot Liner / Cargo Mat / Loadspace Mat (after market)
Electric Trailer Brakes (after market)
H7 driving light zenon upgrade (after market)
Worthy considerations:

Auto High Beam Assist
Weathershields (if you prefer the great outdoors & arm on the window sill instead of AC)
Front & Rear Mudflaps (factory)
Worthy considerations if you go camping/offroading a few bit:

2.7TD (so I could fit 17" rims & LT A/T or M/T tyres)
17" alloy rims 1400kg capacity (after market - if you have an offroad bent or tow alot on dirt roads)
Rubber mats (factory - if you have kids and/or intend to use it camping/4WDing)
Front & Rear Mudflaps (home made appear to be the best way to go)
Traxide underbonnet dual battery system (after market)
Rhino roof rails & bars or full roof rack (after market)
Winch bar
Snorkel
Wouldn't do again (unless free supply by L/R):

Premium Navigation
Personally, I find the 2.7TD more than ample as a tow vehicle (2.5 tonne c/van loaded)

I have a D4 3.0 SE...

I have and like:

3.0 engine
Leather & 7 seats
eDiff
Window tinting - essential!

I find I don't need:

reverse camera (because I don't have it) sensors seem sufficient for me
SatNav (see below note on costs)

It would be nice to have:

upgraded stereo system:

if only for the fact that when you attach a bluetooth phone, you don't need to scroll through all the entries to get to the part of the alphabet you want! I have 679 addressbook entries
for better audio connectivity options (like iPod & USB key)
But it MUST be bundled with SatNav, making this $5K extra!

I have aftermarket:

Rhino Roof Rails - because they have a low profile because I don't always attach the...
Rhino Roof Racks - on sometimes
PET Recycled Plastic Pile Loadspace liner - still looks good, easy to clean (but harder to clean than rubber), prevents spills and crumbs falling between the cracks of the 3rd row
Aluminium Door sill protectors - looks good, good protection for paint on door sill

Hello eddomak,
The door sills on both my D3 and RRS have lost paint on the doorsills. The dealer says that I must catch it them with my leg or shoe when I get in or out.
You mention in your list the availability of Aluminium Door sill protectors. I can't find these in either D3 or RRS accessory lists on the Landrover website. Any ideas?

Hi Discojools,

Mine aren't OEM, but they do the job, and I actually prefer them to the OEM ones.
I have a set that look similar to this item on eBay - mine seem less shiny.

DISCOVERY 3 & 4 > Door Sill Plates - Stainless Steel - eBay Door Customisation, Interior Styling, Car Tuning Styling, Vehicle Parts Accessories. (end time 10-Oct-10 22:47:29 AEDST) (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/DISCOVERY-3-4-Door-Sill-Plates-Stainless-Steel-/180569755599?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a0acbcfcf)

And look around, because for the IDENTICAL set the total price can vary by quite a lot. I think mine (front and rear set as per above) were around $AUD120-$140 delivered.

The official OEM Discovery 4 set is:
http://assets.config.landrover.com/v1dts/lr/au/l319/accoly_au_l319_ebn500041.jpg

And is known as the "Stainless Steel Sill Tread Plate" - look under Land Rover Official Homepage | Land Rover Australia (http://www.landrover.com.au/) and then Accessories, Discovery 4, then Interior Styling. You can do the same for RRS.

Another option you might consider is a clear protective film. I had a Freelander before, and the door sill was a lot wider, and I had sidebars, so people would keep stepping on the top of the bar and onto the sill. Lots of scratches.

Cheers,
Edwin.

Hi Roger,
I have:
D4 2.7,
7 Leather seats,
E-diff,
Rear A/C,
Bi-Xenons,
Sunroof.

Things i wish i opted for:
Keyless Entry (saves you grabbing your key to ONLY lock/unlock your vehicle every time you approach it)(Keyless entry works when you approach the vehicle with key in pocket/bag etc, you grab handle-key within proximatey-door unlocks. When walking away push button on handle & vehicle locks)

Cold Climate Pack (would be good for my bad back in winter)

After living with the vehicle for 6 months, These are the 2 options i would buy on my next vehicle.

After driving other vehicles every day, i kinda wish i could add them....but alas cant be done...

Cheers & good luck in your search.

One other thing I'd recommend...aftermarket paint protection film.
Fitted it myself to the front & rear wheel arches, side mirror backs, front grille surround.
The reason for the film was the way the rear arches sit out from the body and the way they got coated in dust/mud each time I'd travel on a dirt road. It was obvious that they coped a caning from dirt & probably small gravel & stones.

ScratchZero :: Temporary Protective Coatings (http://www.scratchzero.net/)

Reading the site it looks like this is a very temporary coating - the DIY version only lasts "up to 6 weeks" and the pro versions "up to 9 months" only? I think there are some other clear contact-type films that last years.

I'll await Ducksguts reponse as to the semi-permanent film he's used.

After having a D3 SE, now have a D4 HSE.

Optioned up the e-diff, upgraded sound system (like my tunes), and adaptive headlights. Everything else is sweet with this model.

Leather is now an absolute because they are so much easier to clean than cloth.

Rear aircon came standard in the HSE and if I had known how much cooler those in the rear are I would have got for the D3. Keeps the little ones more comfortable although the youngest complains he is too cold sometimes.

Would like to haves (not necessarily available from the factorybut would be nice if they were on the options list):
- larger fuel tank (towing a caravan around the north west of WA at moment and only getting just over 400kms between fills as is close to 3t fully loaded)
- roof rack (LR expedition rack is a little too expensive - want to carry two spares up top)
- bull bar (when is ARB going to actually release theirs or are they providing them to LRA under licence first?)
- snorkel

Cheers

I'd also add the LR genuine bullbar - the one at the Sydney Motorshow has one on, I've placed my order and should be available in the New Year.

The genuine bar allows for all front accessories and sensors to be mounted into the bar, for those with optioned up SE or HSE models.

Does any one have any photos of genuine bullbar?

Does anyone know if it will be able to be retrofitted to D3?

How much are they?

Us Victorians have not had an opportunity to see it yet.

Duck's guts--Where did you get the aftermarket clear-film and what brand?

OziShield in Melbourne. They use 3M paint protection film, and have specific kits with different components. But, they put together a kit & price just for the bits I wanted, you just need to ask.
Web site link to L/R Disco 4 specific applications is Product Page - OziShield : (http://www.ozishield.com.au/products.asp?cat=871)
Web site link to L/R Disco 3 specific applications is Product Page - OziShield : (http://www.ozishield.com.au/products.asp?cat=870)

Found the installation to be pretty easy, but time consuming to achieve a good install. But well worth it.

Disclaimer: I am not associated with this business in any way, but I do like to promote those who do provide both a great product and terrific helpfull service. And in this instance, OziShield did just that.

I think it looks crap. The ARB is much better looking.
Wonder if ARB will do an alloy one?

Can you get it in black? Did you notice if they have to cut the wheel arch lip?

Not sure I would be happy to wait until the new year for that (looks a bit clunky), although if ARB don't pull their finger out they could miss the boat a bit given ECB are already in the market.

The display board next to the vehicle had written that it was a pre-production model.
The final product is still to be determined & will be early next year.
Colors etc i am not sure.
Exact details for all information will be confimed later.
The wheel arch flares go all the way down as per the original vehicle & are not modified & they are rubber side skirts.

I've pretty much decided to cancel my ARB order in favour of the ECB one. I object to cutting the flares and it sits too close to the bonnet too. I think silver hammertone should look acceptable on Nara Bronze.

Way too shiny for my liking.....LR went out of their way to deglitze the D4.....colour matched badging etc, dull silver coloured trim Vs chrome.....think the bar would stand out like the proverbial....

I'm assuming when it hits the streets other colour/finish options will be available.

Hi Graeme,
I think that you'll find that the "ëxtra" space with the alloy bars would be necessary in any "incident".

Best Wishes,
