Up at the farm where I shoot fox's I have the use of a Landy. It also has a twin sister thats a nogoer sitting in the shearing shed (that one is red). Now the thing is, both these landys have seen some real hard yards and both are covered in all sorts of muck both inside an out (under). Trying to get a model type off the chassi has been near nigh impossible. Both are Badge as "Land Rover 3.9D" and both have Izuzu Diesels. I have been told that the running gear on them both is "Range Rover Based" what ever that means, by the cocky (farmer). Both are Permant 4WD and have the Low/High TC Gear Leaver and the CDL Leaver under the center seats base leading edge. To use both are pulled forward. Both are on Leaf springs to btw.

Series III Stage 1. Isuzu diesel, LT95 box. Engine conversion from new was optional extra in Australia only. Not Range Rover based. Permanent 4 wheel drive with centre diff lock. May have Salisbury rear diff.

Leafers are standard on all series III's.

Sounds like a couple of Series III Stage I's of about 1980's vintage.

Series 3 Stage 1. Came with a V8 but optionally, in Australia only, with the Isuzu 4BD1. All were permanent four wheel drive, using the LT95 four speed combined gearbox and transfer case which first appeared in the Range Rover and 101. Leaf springs, body except for grille, radiator support and bonnet pretty much standard S3, as is the chassis and rear axle. 109" wheelbase only, came in at least trayback, full length hardtop, station wagon bodies, possibly others, such as ute, and like all S3, conversions between body types are easy. Special to that model are front axle assemblies and a few other bits, can be hard to source parts for these.

The 'Range Rover based' bit is because the LT95 gearbox/transfer was used in the Range Rover as well, being developed for both the Rangie and the 101 FC.
You have a pair of very strong rigs!

Well I'm going to try to sweet talk the Owner into letting me buy BOTH. One for spares. The one pictured above has some serious starting issues atm, its either a bad starter motor or the diesel its self is buggered. Either way I want to use them for Proof of Concept for the 6x6 conversion before I chop up a 130. If it works out I can then transfer the running gear to the 130 (I Hope).

So what would you guys think would be a fair offer for them, remembering that these Pair have been realy used an abused, there aint one straight panel on em, have rust in Firewall, every seat is ripped, an both have some serious engine troubles. And lets not forget, about several inches of gunk all over from god know what under each of em, cant even see steel any more. :)

Starting problem is most likely a crook earth connection between engine and chassis, although other problems are possible.

Price is difficult, as the market for these is very thin. However, the special bits for the front axle are likely to be in demand, as are the LT95 and the Landrover special bits on the engine (mainly flywheel housing and bell housing), so these will put a minimum on the price. And there were never all that many of the Isuzu engined ones made, and in some eyes the mark the apex of Landrover design, and hence are becoming collectible.

And taking John's point a step further. There is possibly more value in these vehicles in their original form than chopped up as a "proof of concept."
