With Matilda raring to get out and about with her all new water pump, I topped up the old girl's fluids and we were ready for fun...

The Scallop decided to head out west and ended up venturing into battle out near Haigslea with the Military Jeep Crew. :thumbsup:

As I flew into the assembly area, Kat yelled at me to not park next to the lovely shiny Jeeps, but bugger it, I did anyway! :D

This totally threw the Jeep boys - they called a hasty meeting....

They obviously weren't a bad bunch, 'cos eventually, rather than shoot me, they invited me to join them for the rest of the day - so I took my place in the convoy....

They got the thing going anyhow, so off we went - ended up back in Ippy and I enjoyed having a yak with some of them - got a fair bit of crap from some too, but.

Anyhow - I said to Kat as we began our convoy with them, "Please God, don't break down Matilda". Otherwise, the Land Rover world will never hear the end of it. :D

Well, we didn't - but we stopped 4 times for broken down Jeeps. But I had a great day out with the Jeep crew - good bunch of people. :BigThumb:

Now I'm home - drinking a cold one and sitting in a deck chair with the one I love..... :wub:

Great to see that you had a good day and that Matilda eventually got to do a run at long last. They aren't a bad bunch of blokes really once you get past their one eyed idea of Yankee engineering (another Oxymoron). We are so fortunate that we Land Rover people aren't so one eyed!!
The great Aussie saying that goes somehow along the lines of "You should have been there Yesterday" applies very aptly in this case, as it so happens that the owner of that "Nice looking CMP Blitz" that you mentioned, has an extremely interesting business in his backyard building full size 90% replicas of another British Icon (Big hint on the logo on his door!) and as well, has in another of his sheds, a fully restored S1 80" 1953 Land Rover.
That, fact plus the fact that Daisy being the only and lonely Military Land Rover to carry the flag on Saturday, means that you missed a great day on Saturday and I missed a great day today. Well you can't win them all.

As mentioned in the earlier post I attended the hastily presented activities that the MJCQ had put in place to appease some of the overseas visitors who had made the effort to attend this years swap meet (even though they had been informed of its postponement prior to their home departures) and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole meet.
Patsy and I turned up at 0905 at the Military museum at Mudgeeraba in Daisy, the only Land Rover representative amongst a couple of Jeeps, a Dodge weapons carrier (that happened to misbehave for a short while on the return journey) a CMP and quite a few Plastic vehicles. (Some members obviously opted for air conditioning in the early hours of the rather windy day rather than open topped Jeeps I guess, same as we opted for Daisy over Onslow for the day.)
The museum was quite an eye opener as I haven't had a decent look in there for well over ten years or so. An interesting in depth discussion was had with the owner, and I dare say I will be back again in the not too distant future! Well displayed coverage of a wide variety of time frames.
From the museum, we headed back up the highway to Yatala where the group commandeered more than half of the veranda tables of the Pie shop and enjoyed some of the local cuisine. "Collecting" talk was definitely the go here! Some very avid collectors indeed.
The Jeep club is a great organisation consisting of many avid members with varied interests, but their outings differ from the LR oriented outings in that the meal gatherings/smoko's are not quite as social as the GCLRO ones, but equally as interesting and educational. Please don't take this as a criticism of either club's outings, we enjoy both for different reasons. (Viva la difference!)
From Yatala we then travelled the long way round through the City and then out to Moggill (Couldn't really use the motorways as some of the International visitors were in hire cars and the language barrier was large enough already let alone trying to explain the intricacies of paying on the 'govia' thingo.) to witness what I would call as one of the most understated and best kept secrets in Queensland, to view a blokes backyard shed where he manufactures and sells (overseas at around a half million AUD at a time), Supermarine Spitfires.
Wow!!! Blew me away for a start.

The Rolls Royce V12 Merlin in the foreground in the first shot is, I believe, out of a Fairy Gannett (counter rotating screw gear on the nose) and is one of a couple of museum display pieces.
These engines are not fitted to the manufactured aircraft, but instead a choice of V6 or V8 engines about 1/3 the weight of the Merlin of the day and that easily out perform those same engines are utilised.

Came the Sausage sizzle, get together later in the night at the club house itself, it appeared that some of the Japanese visitors had no accommodation booked for that one night (due to above-mentioned postponement) so, along with a couple of other volunteers, Patsy and I ended up taking one couple (I had met the previous year) under our wing.
He, Hiro, owns an ex US army MUTT (M151A2) and happens to be a radio tech, Ham and Radio collector. (Does any one else see the interesting side to a Japanese being a Jeep collector, or is it just me?). Him being a fellow ex military crank similar to myself, I felt that the best thing I could do was offer him a viewing of my toys and perhaps a drive of Onslow! Strangely enough he jumped at this idea and the following shots are the ensuing result...

Sunday morning I escorted them back to the Jeep club (rather than let them loose with a Refidex) and the following shots appealed to me being an ex truckie and having operated the following vehicles that were assembling for the day's sojourn that Scallops describes above.

All in all this was a very memorable weekend for my spice and myself although a little tiring. I must apologise re the lack of Land Rover content in this post but there weren't many there, just us and Scallops on Sunday!

Nice fella too - he made us very welcome. Matilda went like a charm - reckon we were doing 90-95km/h in her coming back from Rosevale - seemed fast anyway.

Thanks for the original post and pics Dan. A good day out all round I would say and I'm sure Matilda was never going to disgrace herself in such august company.

Thanks also to Glen for the follow up report and pics of the previous days activities. Am I the only one who noticed the irony of a "full size" 90% replica.:eek::angel: Impressive nonetheless. I have seen this place on the ABC at some stage.

Perry, size wise and scale wise they are 100% correct, but when fitted with the V8 power-plant they are considered 90% correct (the engine and probably screw size are different, as is the weight, especially with no armament or armour plating around the cockpit etc.,) and with the smaller again V6 engine, it is considered 80% correct.
The manufacturer sells these as completed aircraft as well as Kit form.

I have actually seen a 3/4 size Spitfire flying at one of the Caboolture Airshows ten or so years ago. It was powered by a 350 Chev if I remember correctly.
