Hey all,
Thought this would be the most appropriate place to ask. Next year I need to plan a fishing trip to the South West around March/April for the Salmon run. I will be going with the old boy, most likely taking both my disco and his patrol. We've been meaning to do this for a while but it just never eventuates mainly because neither one of us plans anything, so now the old boy's put it on me to suss it all out. We've never been the most successful fisho's but we figure if we get the timing right we are bound to catch something when the runs on (especially watching the dvd my FFIL made for us on his trip).
So the basic details of the trip are that we will be going for 1-2 weeks and either camping, staying at caravan parks or cheap motels around the place. The main idea being that we are not fixed in one location and can move up or down the coast depending on where the salmon are. Obviously we will be targeting salmon but we will be happy with anything that has gills, swims and can be caught of the beach.
Now I would love to know all the secret spots but I know that most people wont reveal these online so the main things I would like to know are as follows:
- Good fishing forums that I will be able to get up to date info on when they are biting.
- Suggested camping spots and caravan parks on or close to the coast that people can recommend.
- Suggested rigs/setups and baits/lures/plastics that have worked for you in the region.
- If the salmon run is late/early what are other good species to target in that region (skippy, herring etc), we may even have a crack at some fresh water fishing.
- General advice from those that have done it before.
I want to kick us off around Albany (maybe even bremmer bay) and go around and up but where we start will depend on what info we get around the time our leave is booked for. It also looks like school holidays start April 20th next year so the most likely time that we will go is the first two weeks of April. This date is very flexible though and I may change it as I find out more, would like to avoid the crowds that come with school holidays but if we cant I guess its an excuse to get more off the beaten track.
I'm also keen to do some weekender's between now and then to try and find some good fishing spots (maybe a chance for some WAAULROian fishing/beach 4wd trips???, seems like one in March this year fizzeled out).
So any advice from the AULRO guru's would be very much appreciated.
Cheers
