I have a Codan 9323 HF transceiver with a 9350 autotune antenna - which I've never got around to installing mainly because of the radio's bulk.

I also bought this week a Qmac HF90 (I was the only bidder on eVilBay) with a view to using it instead of the Codan as the Qmac is very small. See http://www.hfradiosales.com.au/codan_%20barrett_hf_radio_information/RADIOS/Qmac_HF90.htm

Now the question, is - which should I use?

I don't know much about the Qmac even though I've looking for one for a while. I guess not driving the Codan 9350 is a given so I'll need a new aerial! :D

Has anyone any experience with the Qmac? Should I relist it on eVilBay?

p38arover,

It will come down to usage and your antenna options
- What did you get with the Qmac?
- What do you want out of your HF?

I use Codans at the moment but have also had experience with the Qmacs so both are great!

The power difference doesn't make too much difference - but the 9323 (&NGT) can be more user friendly and interfaced with the HFOZ network where you can Txt communicate to SMS or EMail and Update you position to share with other - if its just Voice comms to say VKS737 both will do this for you.

The 9350 has all the auto tune 'smarts' inside the body, so it can be tricked into working with pretty much any HF radio. All it needs is power, a transmitter than can be set to low power for the tune cycle and a (TTL I think) logic level to command the tuner to perform a tune cycle.

If you do decide to ditch the Codan gear, let me know please. I may be interested :)

I still think you would be better off selling both and getting an NGT. It would look soo much nicer in the P38
