Hi All
I am currently in the labs at uni and am in the final stages of a design project that requires me to fully design the front landing gear for an aircraft the size of an Airbus A330. This involves endless hours of calculations, CAD work and simulations and a massive report due friday.

So seeing as I have so far gone for 22 hours without sleep, and need to take a break from it, I thought I'd procrastinate and ask; whats the longest time you have gone without sleep?

Think I'm gonna take a nap now.... caffeine can only do so much :(

72 hrs when I lived overseas.
I took a truckers pill similar to no-dose.
It took me a week to get back to normal.

A very weird feeling and not one I recommend as you make silly mistakes.

Take power naps instead I suggest.
Seeing you are doing Cad etc which takes skill and concentration you be far more productive with some sleep.

Thats been my experience. Coffee also helped but dehydrated me also.

can't remember the exact number of hours but it involved 3 night shifts then a doubleback to an arvo, a tad of 4wding in between. It took me close to a month to get over it, looking at the percentage of shiftworkers who are diabetics, it's not worth the effort.

Probably about 45 hours.

Up in the morning, left Adelaide around the middle of the day. Overnight drive to Brisbane. No sleep on arrival, then out to the pub with mates. Back at their place and bed at about 3 am.

Much easier to do if you are having fun and doing it by choice, don't know if I could do it again now nearly 10 years older.

Hi,
three days, with 2 nights between. It was the Tag St fire about 10 years ago, lots of fire round Hobart and most of our local crew had gone fishing to Bruny Island and I was the only driver for our truck with the license. Management had a few problems with logistics re food and changing crews, but they got a heap of other stuff spot on.
cheers

John Carter, a SDA evangelist had trouble learning ancient Greek & Ecclesiastical History, being up late every night studying. But his exam marks went up dramatically when he spent a lot less time studying, as he changed his lifestyle, and started to get a good night sleep, going for a walk each day--getting fresh air, sunshine and exercise, adequate rest all at the same time, which along with good nutrition and lots of water to drink [he already avoided alcohol and drugs, and coffee does affect our brain function], improved his brain function so that his marks went up significantly [others tell a similar story]. So why not try it?

And couldn't walk for a week right?

57hrs for me... was on deadline for a magazine and harddrive crashed and lost main 140page magazine document... so 57hrs to redo a magazine and still make print deadline. Funniest thing is was going a little fast while driving home afterwards and was pulled up at 9 in the morning... played it cool, couldn't tell the copper was falling asleep and needed to get home fast :)

l suffer from sever sleep apnea, which was diagnosed after many close encounters of driving over round abouts rather than around them and finally after my body decided to close down in what presented itself as a massive heart attack!!, ... after specialist treatment and investigation it was discovered that in realty i was over the previous eight years surviving on less than an hour of real sleep an evening !!!!...:eek2:

About 40 hours.

When I used to be a baker and I was at a BBQ with a couple of mates but had to work the saturday night starting at around 11PM. I was annoyed I couldn't drink but plenty of cups of coffee did the trick although once the shift on the Saturday night was over I was rooted and slept for about 10 hours straight.

6.5 days  Was a very hard week..... Cronic insomnia as well so on breaks couldnt rest...Slept 36 hours afterwards...

Longest driving stint was Perth to Adelaide Solo occupant in vehicle, 26 hours... Do the math!

Longest recently was 17 hrs straight driving, 20 hours to sort the issues (Tombies Road trip incident) and then a damn good nights sleep!

Often awake 48hrs+ I only average 4-5 hours sleep a night at the best of times. :(

There's a man in Vietnam who hasn't slept for 12,000 days. He wins:D. Though not through choice/necessity, I believe its a insomnia type condition.

Well about 50 hrs later with no sleep and a 150 page report later I can finally relax. While it was all fun, it was a hard week, glad its all done and dusted now....
