Guys, I have finally uploaded some photos of my D4. I ended up going with a Traxide dual battery system - but using a thumper in the rear (located within the ORS drawer system when fitted / or up against cargo barrier when ORS is not fitted). I also added extra LED lighting which I found very handy in my D3.

ARB air compressor under the bonnet;

Uniden UHF which I remove when not needed (plug in hidden down by drivers left knee).

Under body protection at front (LR / Mantec); GOE compressor guard;

Here are some photos:

Gday...

Very interested in the little ladder on the rear top tailgate.

Did you buy it pre-fabricated? If so, where please?

And how is it mounted on top? I assume it just sits on the bottom with some sort of 'buffer' to save paint etc.

The rig looks great .... well done. :)

Cheers

I was looking at getting some more light around the back, and was considering where to mount those strips of LEDs. Your idea of lining the frame of the back window is awesome!

John,
That is a Land Rover factory part.
Try your local Dealer & see how you go.

John, its the standard LR ladder you can order from your local dealer ("G4 Challenge ladder") - albeit I got it cheaper by buying it over the net from Duckworth Landrover in the UK (yes, even with freight - its light!); I think others make a version too (Dolium maybe? - check their website).

The flexible LED lighting strip is unnoticeable when its off - very effective when its on - especially above the fridge (when the fridge slide is out). Separate switch so you can turn off front / middle row interior lights while camping and just have the new LED's on.

cheers!

Hey Stornoway,
Do you have info wrt the LED strip lighting?
Part Numbers, Where you purchased from.
I really like what you have done & am in the process of doing the same.

Cheers.

Hi,
Great stuff - just wondering how you go getting in to wind down the spare tyre?
Cheers

Yes, good point, on the D3 (just sold) I had a RWC so this wasnt an issue. With the D4 I have a second set of (5) rims and MTR tyres for the so to avoid having to take drawer system out (its not permanent by the way, takes less than 5mins to remove) the plan is to leave standard spare in place, use 5th MTR on top of car or camper trailer and hope that gets me through....which it really should....!

Hmm - I was wondering for mine whether I could just put a hole in the bottom of the drawer system so at the most only a drawer needs to come out... don't think I'll be getting spare rims and MTR's for xmas, no matter how nicely I ask!!

Oh and is that an ARB fridge? What do you think of it? :)

CSBrisie
18th November 2010, 04:41 PM
Yes, ARB, faultless to date; have heard early ones may have had issues with the digital display but mine has been fine :)

Nice one Stornoway!

Love the colour:D

Great idea with the LED's in the tailgate. I'll have to investigate that one...
I assume that you also got the head and tail lamp guards from Duckworth Landrover in the UK?
And what about the headrest DVD? Factory LR?

Cheers,
Marc...

CSBrisie

Yes, light guards from Duckworth (and ladder etc)

DVD's were fitted in Adelaide - by a contractor linked to the Adelaide LR dealer (half the cost of LR OEM!)

cheers!!

GSD - German Shepherd Dog...I have one or two wherever I go:D

CSBrisie
28th November 2010, 08:43 PM
Gotcha; have had them before too! The drawer system removes in under 10mins so GSD's still welcome :)

Could I ask where you got the aerial mounting bracket from? I need one to fit into the roof rails I had fitted to my RRS and that looks exactly what I need.

Thanks,

Gee. its not often with only "600Newtons" one feels inferior!! :D

Seriously, bracket came via give Glen at Mt Barker 4x4 in SA, 08 8391 4391

One more question Stornoway,

where have you routed the cables from the UHF aerial into the car?

Thanks,
640Newton

CSBrisie
1st December 2010, 05:26 PM
ahh, the UHF is mounted in one of the two rear cargo area cubby holes (where tow bar is stored) as the microphone has all buttons on the face and a speaker on the back (so head unit doens't need to be anywhere near the driver). Its a Uniden - but like the GME3440, just cheaper. Cable runs in down the inside of tailgate and through the rear light I think (I didnt fit it - Glen at Mt Barker did - so he will tell you)

640Newton
1st December 2010, 06:46 PM
so does the handset use something like Cat5 cable to run from the unit in the back to the handset up the front?

I've been looking at the GME 3440 and also an iComm equivalent unit. I hadn't looked at a Uniden one.

CSBrisie
2nd December 2010, 12:11 PM
Correct. I looked at those too. Uniden has speaker in the back of the microphone handset and is cheaper.

Sorry Stornoway, I am not clear on if your RSE is genuine LR? if so, from Duckworth also?

CSBrisie
11th January 2012, 04:03 PM
No, these are better than the LR ones; Individual Rosen screens with built in DVD players and game controllers in each and wirless headphones; I think it was $2K for the system.

Thanks, I assume it's the AV7500 - where did you get it and is there any integration with the main console?

CSBrisie
15th January 2012, 05:13 PM
That's the one - all arranged through Solitaire Landrover Adelaide; no integration with centre console screen - independent.
