I have seen quite a few different ways that Holden red motors have been adapted into Series Landys. For those interested, here are some closeups of the engine & gearbox mounting for the 186 conversion that was done in my 1951 80inch Series 1. Feel free to add comparison pics of the setups in your vehicles.

Newbs I don't know weather to laugh or cry.
That's engineering at it's lowest level. I'd frame those........

Yea I rekon the whole lot was done in the back paddock of some bloke's farm way back when... :p

To be fair it still runs and drives okay, certianly enough to be a farm truck/paddock basher

It's a 186 - runs great and has heaps of power, I'd guess it was done in the 1980s some time. I was tempted to re register it with the 186 but there is no way I would bother getting it engineered...

My holden conversion did not even use a conversion kit. The standard landrover adapter plate was just bolted to the rear of the holden engine. The holes for the bolts were not even drilled - just punched through the aluminium with a cold chisel.

It did work though.

Hi there Garrycol

I have heard of some dodgy workman ship but:

It's a very, very crude looking conversion.
But...at the end of the day it looks as though it worked for many years.
Only thing it lacked to make it a real authentic bit of Aussie bush ingenu'ity was a bit of number 8 wire with a "Cobb and Co Twitch"

Cheers, Mick :)
