How do you replace windscreen washer nozzle?

G'Day All,

After numerous stone chips I eventually had to have my windscreen replaced. During the process, the windscreen guy put a protective cover over the bonnet, sat inside the car and pushed the old windscreen out with his feet. That was a couple of months ago.

Now I discover that the old windscreen must have taken the windscreen washer nozzle with it when it came out!

Unfortunately, it appears that replacing the nozzle means getting in behind the panelling under the windscreen - that is, in behind the dash where the ashtray is.

Well where the ashtray used to be. I've fitted a Mudpod with switches and instruments in place of the ashtray. So it's rather invloved to get in there and see if I can get at the back of the washer nozzle.

So, before I pull out the Mudpod etc, can anyone tell me if this will give me access to the back of the washer nozzle so I can replace it?

Or maybe there's a simpler way?

Yes there is, I did it on my 90 not long ago. The tube (plastic) behind the nozzle is fairly sturdy. What you do is prise the nozzle off using a pair of small screwdrivers. This leaves the black plastic tube behind. All you do then is the same to the new nozzle and simply fit it over the plastic tube. Give the new nozzle a tap and it sits onto the plastic tube.
This tip was given to me by an independent LR repairer and it works really easily.

This will work well provided the base plastic tube is undamaged. It is more than likely that removal of the windscreen would have just have pushed the nozzle off, as they are not usually that tight to remove with screwdrivers.

The nozzle assembly is quite cheap. (Britpart AMR3025), and includes the base tube. Just detach the nozzle part. If you have to replace the base tube it is a major undertaking. Even removing the top part of the dash does not give good access, as there is a metal bracket in the way.

It is a particularly stupid bit of (characteristically British) design.

I thought I might finish this thread off with how I went with replacing the windscreen washer nozzle.

Both Ivan and Lionel were spot on but I did run across one wrinkle. That is, that the replacement nozzle needs to be the genuine Land Rover part.

I rarley use aftermarket parts but I (incorrectly) thought that on this occasion "it's only a simple bit of plastic" and "it's not a critical part"; so I initially bought the much cheaper aftermarket alternative from Rimmer Bros in the UK.

It turned out that this cheaper nozzle had been made in two parts (like the genuine Land Rover part) but then glued together rather than pressed together. Bummer!

So after getting the genuine Land Rover part, the whole thing went according to Ivan and Lionel's script.

Interesting information - thanks for passing it on. Was the cheaper part from Rimmers the Britpart AMR3025, or something else?

Also, what was the genuine LR part number?

The genuine LR part number was AMR3025 and cost GBP5.79 ex-VAT.

The aftermarket part number was AMR3025P and cost GBP2.25 ex-VAT.

I've found Rimmers to be very good and I dont think I've knowingly bought anything Britpart. There're probably just as good and maybe where Rimmers get their aftermarket parts.
