180000ks
Turbo failed.
Motor is OK,head needs work, timing gear replaced, new turbo. There are scores in the piston that copped a valve.
Quoted around $5000 to get it going, then sell it.HEAD GASKET $500:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:.Surely this is wrong!!!!!
He has been making enquires,it seems the turbo failure at this age is a developing problem for Nissan.

Dont the ZD30's normally just blow holes in pistons? Never heard turbo failure being the problem.

In the early Pootrols YES.
As mentioned they havent been an issue in the Navara.Lighter vehicle, les engine load/towing loads?????????????????
This is a turbo failure and shrapnel into the motor. The owner spoke to a rebuilder in Perth and was told the turbo failure is VERY common in the 200000k age bracket.

i do believe that the ZD30 in the Navara was still a problem, just not as big of a problem as it was in the Patrol. But the turbo failure at around 200000km being a common issue is something I have not heard. Very interesting.

What year model was your mates navara?

Well it cant be the usual Nissan ZD30 problem, Nissan assure motorists they had the problem sorted by 2003.

This young bloke at work must of ran over a chinaman.
Back in november his ZD30 Navara died, wasnt the common number 4 with a hole, turned out to be a turbo failure.
$5000 and 2 months later it has let him down yet again. This time it reved out of control till it stopped,HUGE amounts of white smoke Im told.
He hasnt paid the last bill off yet.

Sounds like the turbo repair may have not been that great, perhaps it developed an oil leak and the rest is history.

seen a hilux die that way

great pall of white smoke and steam going 20 feet into the air

is an awesome thing to see hear and smell.

would suck having to pay for it though...

that it would, especially with a diesel engine.

surely the mechanic would have to guarantee his work?

It is trying to argue the point that a faulty part or bad workmanship was to blame as opposed to driving style, misuse, km travelled, failure to add oil, failure to run in, etc, etc, which these places will say to avoid paying up and honouring their warranty. You can install a good part badly but you can do a perfect job installing a bad part too - proving which has occurred is harder.

You have to be prepared to fight them if they won't fix it. Or cut your losses, get rid of it and start again. Or start a really harsh facebook or twitter page. Any of these options work
