Ok so I got this alternator from a mate and he claims it is to suit a 3.9L rover V8. I cant seem to locate any marking on the exterior and have yet to remove the cap.

If anyone can point me in the right direction so I can commence the research required to utilise this alternator it would be much appreciated.

It's one huge mofo, have a reference shot with my girlfriend holding it to get an idea of size.

Um, I don't think it's an alternator to start with :angel:.

And I hope that's not your girlfriend.

Or is this an 'in joke' ???

Ebay is full of these dissy's. The coil is in the cap. They are a copy design, (made in China probably) of the original Chev HEI distributor. No good reason why it shouldn't run, you just need to extend the + and - wires over from your original coil. One of my customers bought one for a Windsor V8 in a ZC Fairlane and it is running well. They may have adjustable vac advance, I believe you stick an allen key into the vac port and turn for more/less advance. I have a similar one in my 2 door RRC but it doesn't have the coil-in-cap design.

yep that isn't an alternator,

but if that girl is your friend,
that does make her a girl friend,

although the description 'girl friend' does in most cases, of someone your age, would usually refer to someone about your age,
like your wife/fiance jess.
:o:D:cool::wasntme:

she makes that dissy look so big!

When you have posted up pics of an actual alternator you might get some coherent advice.:D

Just stick your finger on one of the plug leads with 12 volts applied and you will see.
Tingle =10 amps
hair standing on end=50 amps
thrown across room =100amps.

If it is not an alternator then it must be a camshaft surely!???

but that's always standing on end...!

A shower twice a week should help with that problem , as for the alternator it is out of a 3.9 and is a 150 amp i pulled it out myself.

ok sweet, thanks for that Greg.

Do I need to change the factory belt to suit? FYI mine is a 3.9 Vbelt config.
