Much merriment is made every so often of Ron P38arover's penchant for 'things-what-break'...
A friend of mine ...in his late 60s mind you, has been in Sudan for the past couple of years bringing education to the refugees from the horrendous war which has racked the place for many years... he sent the following note:
I came to Southern Sudan suitably 'armed' with modern techological equipment. Most items, however, have ‘died’ or been temporarily disabled. Here is my litany.
Computer – sick. Needs new battery I think. Otherwise dead. Using replacement computer for time being
Telephone – sick. Big blob on screen. Replaced with cheap ‘throw-away-phone’!
Phone adaptor – burned out. New one purchased
Computer power adaptor – burned out. Replaced.
Rechargeable torch – bulb blew. No replacement available in Southern Sudan
Wind up torch – handle fell off.
Lantern torch – died. Now use candles! Can buy new torch or lantern made in China.
Camera – lost. New camera but wrong connector leads to computer.
The good news is my battery-powered fan still works well – the bad news is that I can no longer re-charge the batteries.Battery charger – died.
Electric razor – I didn’t bring one ‘al hamdu lilah’ (thank God). Hand razor still works well.
Printer won’t scan – but I am lucky because it lets me connect to print while others cannot.
All is not lost. My ipod is still in perfect working order and so am I.
guess we take a fair bit for granted!
